How Climate Change Causes Homophobia (Or Is It the Other Way Around?)

Climate Change/Global Warming causes homophobia. No, homophobia causes Climate Change. And then Climate Change causes Income Inequality. Er, no, wait a minute–Income Inequality causes Climate Change. Ugh, I’m getting confused!

Come on–you didn’t really think I could untangle these Democrat fantasies, did you? Let’s move on to another kind of fantasy–certainly a much more edifying fantasy than any of this slop.

Have you noticed? Bell Mountain in paperback is selling at half-price on amazon.com. For less than half of what it costs you to sit through a really stupid movie, you can get the first book of my Bell Mountain Series. Popcorn is extra. If you already have the book, tell your friends about this insanely generous offer.

If you live in a country other than the USA, I do understand your problem with the shipping costs–way too high. You can get around that by ordering the book in the Kindle format.

I guarantee my books to be 100% free of current popular culture rubbish. And how many writers can say that?

Progress on ‘The Temple’

I’ve written half a dozen chapters of my new book, The Temple (No. 8 of my Bell Mountain series) and so far, so good. My wife and my editor think so, at least.

It’s so much more pleasant and fulfilling, doing this, than writing about the slow murder of my country at the hands of her ruling class. I sit outside in the springtime, with my pen and my legal pad, birds singing, flowers blooming: say a prayer, get to work, and before long, I’m in the land of Obann. Later my wife will ask me, “Didn’t you see, didn’t you hear” this or that–and I’ll have to admit I missed it. I was riding with Lord Chutt’s wagon-train full of gold, or following Helki as he spied on it.

Now, if only people would buy and read these books! Books can’t accomplish anything without readers.

Let me take this opportunity to angle tastelessly and vulgarly for readers’ comments on my books. Have they done anything for you at all–the few, the proud, who’ve actually read them?

I know–I sound like John D. MacDonald. Hundreds of thousands of readers loved his Travis McGee books; but at one point in his career, MacDonald didn’t know that, and went to the trouble of setting up a special post office box in hopes that his readers would write letters to him. His career turned out all right, didn’t it? But he was some time waiting for it–time which surely seemed a lot longer, to him and his wife, than it really was.

Goin’ Good (I Think)

I don ‘t know why this should be, but whenever you actually start writing a book, all hell breaks loose. In my case, it’s family members, friends, and neighbors suddenly falling ill, the phone ringing off the hook, assignments getting backed up into each other…

Nevertheless, I have proceeded to get The Temple underway, I’ve done the first few chapters, and I think it’s shaping up just fine.

I like to work outside. I can’t now, because they’ve got leaf blowers going next door. The noise would be infuriating.

Oh, but it’s good to get back into these books!

No. 7 in the series, The Glass Bridge, is in the process of being edited. It needs a Kirk DouPonce cover, and I need to write a cover blurb. I can’t say when all that work will be finished and the book will be released. In the meantime, I hope some of you will have enjoyed The Palace enough to favor it with a nice customer review on amazon.com.

There oughta be a law allowing you to shoot people who are running leaf blowers.

I’ve Started My Next Book

Just so you know, yesterday I went back to Obann to clean up the mess I left at the end of Book. No. 7, The Glass Bridge. This one, No. 8, I’ve entitled The Temple.

Oh, how good it is to be back!

Here’s what I’ve started with: a title, certain things that the general arc of the story requires, a cast of characters, and a few scenes which I can see in my mind’s eye and which I hope I can write up to be as compelling as I imagine them. Beyond that, I trust in the Lord my God to take my hand and lead me. May He give me the story that He wants me to tell, and no other.

I’ve Got My Copies of ‘The Palace’

As I was thinking up all sorts of things I should’ve said today on Mr. Wildmon’s show, the UPS man came with my author’s copies of The Palace.

Unless you’ve experienced it for yourself, it’s very hard to describe what goes through your mind when you hold in your hand a printed, published book, with a beautiful cover, that once was nothing but some thoughts and images in your mind, and then handwritten words on a legal pad, and then bits of chapters printed up so your wife and editor could read them…  And I ask myself, “Did I do this?”

Gee, I can’t wait to read it.

Does that seem ridiculous? After all, I wrote it–why should I want to read it?

That’s another thing that’s hard to explain.

But one thing I do understand is that this is God’s blessing–God gave me the story, and the ability to tell it, and brought together a lot of people who worked together to turn it all into a book: and I am thankful, and I give Him the glory.

Probably tomorrow I’ll go back to writing about controversial issues, etc. But that’ll be then. For now, I’ll just enjoy my book.

I’m on the Air Tomorrow

Yes, tomorrow I return to Tim Wildmon’s American Family Radio ( http://www.afr.net ) for 15 minutes of fame, at 11:15 a.m. Eastern Time.

I’ll be there to launch my new book, The Palace, No. 6 in my Bell Mountain series. All six books are available in both paperback and Kindle, and can be ordered right here on this blog–just click “Books.” If you’ve already got them, tell your friends about ’em.

I’m not just fooling around here. I think it’s important to offer Young Adult readers stories that are clean, exciting, edifying, thought-provoking, and that they’ll remember, and come back to, for years afterward. Currently this market is stacked to the ceiling with vile stuff you wouldn’t use on the floor of your bird cage, once you read it. Help me and my editors elbow some of this junk off the shelves to make room for something better.

Meanwhile, editorial work has begun on No. 7, The Glass Bridge, a book which I think you’re going to like a lot. But I’m pretty sure you’re gonna like The Palace, too.

See you tomorrow!

‘The Palace’ is Out (and so is our old bed)

The sixth book of my Bell Mountain series, The Palace, has been published and is now on sale. You can order it here (just click “Books”), or find it on amazon.com and order it there. The Palace has only been in print for a matter of hours, and is awaiting its first Customer Review.

My book launch on Tim Wildmon’s American Family Association internet TV show is still on for Monday morning, March 24, at 11:15 a.m. Eastern Time.

Note: The Palace is not yet available in Kindle format, but it will be, soon. I admit the beautifully produced, durable paperback edition will cost you slightly more than you’d have to pay to see The Great Gatsby with a hip-hop sound track. But then you can read the book again for free.

On a personal note, my wife ordered us a new mattress and box springs, which were delivered this morning. Every 37 years, like clockwork, we replace our bed.

This mattress is at least twice as high as the old one. If you fall out of this bed, you’re gonna need a parachute.

A Coming Attraction

Book No. 6 of my Bell Mountain series, The Palace, has been sent to the printer and should be finished in a week or two.

Reminder: You can pre-order the book from The Chalcedon Foundation, by phoning them at 209-736-4365209-736-4365 and speaking to Jill at “Orders”. You can all pre-order the book at Chalcedon Store Site.

To help launch the book, I will be a guest on Tim Wildmon’s American Family Assn. online TV show, tentatively scheduled for Monday, March 24. Don’t miss it! If the book becomes a best-seller, I can hire someone with a really good voice to speak for me from now on.

The Palace features the usual mix of adventure, wonder, war and treachery, redemption, and overall excitement: believe me, you don’t want to miss the Battle of the Brickbats.

I’ll have more details for you as I get them. Stay tuned.

My Next Book

Sometime very soon–in fact, I can’t imagine what’s holding it up–the sixth book in my Bell Mountain series, The Palace, will go on sale. It’s action-packed, I promise you. And editing has started on #7, The Glass Bridge.

But at the forefront of my mind is #8, which is nowhere near having a title. What it has, so far, is a lot of plot problems to solve and a number of tantalizing scenes that have bubbled up in my imagination. I can hardly wait to start writing them. Unfortunately, there’s nothing I can tell you about them without spoiling the preceding two books. You’ll just have to use your imagination.

Beyond #8 I cannot yet see anything. I pray the ideas will keep coming: they are gifts from God.

I wonder if I’ll be called to go back into Obann’s past–maybe all the way back to the story of King Ozias and his reign. Maybe back to the wreckage left after the destruction of Obann’s Empire. Then again, maybe Book #9 will take me some years into Obann’s future. I’ll just have to wait and see what the Lord gives me.

Meanwhile, I’m eager for reader feedback, either here on the blog or as Customer Reviews on amazon.com. Sometimes writing a novel is like putting a message in a bottle and throwing it into the ocean.
