What they offer us instead is only so much trash.
We don’t happen to have a hymn request yet this morning, so I’ll fall back on one of my favorites–the old Scottish hymn, Behold the Mountain of the Lord, sung by Godfrey Birtill.

I need this hymn, just now–this ancient Scottish hymn, Behold the Mountain of the Lord. Immersed in nooze for several hours, I found myself yearning to hear it again.
This one thing I think I’ve learned: the Mountain of the Lord is rising even as we speak. We’re just too small, our lives are just too short, to see it.
And that’s where faith comes in. Because only faith can see it.

Yes, I know, I’ve posted this old Scottish hymn many times–Behold the Mountain of the Lord, sung by Godfrey Birtill. I love it, and I love how it articulates our Christian hope.
In the old Planet of the Apes movie, Charlton Heston, playing an astronaut, says of the world he came from, our world, “Somewhere out there, there has to be something better.”
But our hope is in the Lord, who made the heavens and the earth–and we don’t have to go “out there.” For the world was perfect once, as God made it, and He will heal it, He will restore that which has been lost, He will repair that which has been broken: for the Lord hath spoken it.
I’m feeling frazzled–too hot, too much noise, too much bad news–so I have resorted to one of my favorite hymns, an ancient hymn: Behold the Mountain of the Lord, sung by Godfrey Birtill. If you’re new here, you might not have heard it yet. Pump it up and sing along.
