This nooze story is almost impossible to believe. But as Claudius said of Caligula’s shenanigans, “Believe it. Believe it…”

German prison authorities have decided to provide pleasant little day trips for a man serving a life sentence for killing another man and eating him (https://nypost.com/2020/05/12/convicted-cannibal-gets-supervised-day-trips-in-disguise/).

The pervert said he’d “spent 40 years longing for it.” He advertised in Craig’s List to find some other wacko who would consent to be murdered, cooked, and eaten; and the world being what it is today, soon found one. If you want the vile details, you’ll have to click the link. We are talking really serious vileness here. But to some it will never be anything more than just another “lifestyle”.

So now they’re taking him on day trips. He’s kinda famous in dear old Deutschland, so they have to take him out in disguise.

What? Wasn’t he having a nice enough time in prison? Maybe they could take him to the park and give him a ride on the merry-go-round. And buy him a popsicle. Do they read him bedtime stories at night? Maybe he and his guards have a lot of laughs together.

Still Plenty of Daftness to Go Around

This story is a bit hard to believe–well, more than a bit–but it seems to be true.

After a high-speed chase, sometimes at 100 mph, Washington State police had to use spike strips to stop a car that had already smacked into two other cars without stopping. Only then did they find… a dog in the driver’s seat (https://news.yahoo.com/us-man-teaching-dog-drive-arrested-high-speed-001940478.html).

The pit bull’s owner was in the passenger seat so he could reach over and steer, sort of, and work the gas pedal. He admitted he was trying to teach the dog to drive. Police charged him with several offenses, including driving while under the influence of drugs. The dog has been placed in an animal shelter.

Are we to feel encouraged because there are still daft people doing daft things, never mind the stupid pandemic?

I don’t know how to answer that.

He Came in Carrying a Severed Head…

Once upon a time a news story like this would have been a national sensation. Today it’s just another bizarre incident, soon to be replaced in the headlines by yet another one.

In a town in Oregon, a man came into a store carrying a severed head and then proceeded to stab a store employee (http://www.kgw.com/news/crime/person-stabbed-at-estacada-grocery-store-officials-say/439651514). The rest of the employees tackled him and held him down until the police could arrive.

It seems they were already looking for this man in connection with the murder of a woman elsewhere in town.

We are not told whose head he was carrying.

Do you think there might be something going kind of wrong with our culture?

This is post-Christian America. Not that we were all that short of murders, years ago. But now these incidents just barely raise an eyebrow. Now we are expected to “accept” and “affirm” behavior that once would have gotten its owner committed to a mental institution.

Go ahead, tell me I’m wrong. I’ll thank you for it. Reassure me that our culture isn’t collapsing wherever you look.

But I say we need to turn around and go back the other way. It may be God will lead us back to sanity. If we listen to Him.
