Dynamic Duo: Owl and Pussycat

Once upon a time, I wonder what folks would’ve said about you if you had a barn owl and a black cat for pets. Your name had better be “Merlin”…

Meanwhile, the owl and the pussycat don’t care: they’re having too much fun together. Somehow the whole idea of an owl having fun never occurred to me. Now I can see what I was missing.

The management apologizes in advance for the musical background. You may wish to turn off the volume. But the video portion is great!

Gotta Love Those Owls!

Really, would you have ever thought these birds could be so cozy and companionable? They hardly act like birds at all–more like mammals. And they dance to music. They must be fantastically intelligent, to be able to adapt so well to what must be, to them, truly unfamiliar circumstances.

Fun with Owls

Not so long ago, I would’ve thought only Zacherley would’ve had an owl for a pet. Or maybe the Munsters. But since then I’ve seen a whole passel of videos featuring friendly, playful, music-loving, snuggly owls. Who knew? But then there always turns out to be more to any kind of animal or bird than anybody thought.

Sanity Break: Baby Owl Does ‘Monster Mash’

All the owls in this video are charming and sweet, but I can’t get over the baby owl dancing to The Monster Mash. Who knew? Owls are just too cool for words.

Sanity Break: Sweet Little Owls

To see how these little owls get along with people, and even with a dog, is to get a glimpse of God’s love. Love is the quintessential God’s stuff, and it works. And not just for humans, either.

One day when I was five years old, my friend and I ventured into the woods; and we hadn’t gone far when we got the scare of our lives. The noise we made disturbed an owl and flushed him out of his perch in a small tree beside the path, just four or five feet from us. Yikes! To this day I remember that owl as being a lot bigger than either of us.

But I know now that there was nothing to be afraid of.

More of God’s Wonderful Stuff: Owls

Notice I am not writing anything today about our impending political firestorm, two days from now. Instead, let’s have a look at some of God’s stuff–at owls.

Animals are not “just animals.” Look how these owls respond to affection! Even when they get it from a dog. Whether it’s an owl delighting in being cuddled and petted (even by a dog!), allowing itself to be blow-dried–how smart does an “animal” have to be, to be that adaptable?–or keeping time with human music coming out of a hand-held electronic gizmo, you just have to be amazed at what love can do.

I think God wants it that way.

God’s stuff: it always works, and it’s always good for us.

Bonus Video: Owl Loves Man Who Rescued Her

This great horned owl was badly injured by a passing car, rescued and nursed back to health by this man at the shelter. See the bond that has joined them. Who knew an owl could love so beautifully? God’s stuff: it always works, and it’s always good for us.

P.S.–Does anybody know the name of that haunting piece of music in the background?

Sanity Break: A Kissy Owl

Oh, bother the election! Instead, we have a little girl named Violeta sharing a kissy moment with… her owl.

Who knew owls could be this cozy? God has filled His creation with love. It only remains for us to receive it with thanksgiving.

Sanity Break: Cuddly Owls

Until youtube came along, who ever guessed that owls are… cuddly? I mean, who knew anybody who had a pet owl?

How did God ever think of creating these birds? The more closely you look at them, the more–well, unusual–they seem to be. Nevertheless, they can be cuddly.

How to Cuddle Your Owl

I don’t think I can manage any more bad news today–so this, instead.

My cats put me to sleep when they cuddle me. But an owl? I had no idea. Looks like it would be pretty easy to cork off, cuddling your owl. Looks like the owl enjoys it, too.

God’s stuff always works, and is always full of surprises for us. For which we give thanks!
