King Ozias’ To-Do List

A medieval wing-ding

I toiled stoically in the sun all day yesterday, getting King Ozias crowned. (Note to aspiring young writers: it’s times like this when you have to make a very tricky decision as to how much detail you should include in the picture.) I finally managed it, setting the table for the coronation feast, today’s assignment.

Looking to Geoffrey of Monmouth, who at least lived in the Middle Ages and wrote about King Arthur, I do have some idea of what these rituals are supposed to look like, and what they mean. But I also know, and you don’t need Geoffrey of Monmouth to tell you about it, something always goes wrong.

Ozias’ feast is at its height, now he’s granting boons… and nobody knows there are serious party-poopers waiting in the wings. Seven of them, all bearing bad news. The captain of the guard should never have let them in.

(Don’t forget to write your Newswithviews column!)

Meanwhile, I have an interesting piece for you from Mark Rushdoony…

First Chapter Set: Done!

King's Armor Deal

King Flosi I, “the Hammer”

I don’t have a title for it yet, but I’ve finished seven chapters of my new book on the life of King Ozias and I’ve got to type them up and send them to Susan for editing.

I think it’s going well. Main characters have come onstage on cue and already established themselves. Ozias is only eight years old, but desperate adventures await him.

Again, I have asked the Lord to give me the story as He wants me to tell it. I’m sure it will surprise me.

At Last–‘Behold!’ Is In The Works Again

Ornitholestes Pictures & Facts - The Dinosaur Database

Above is pictured one of the critters encountered by Helki the Rod in Lintum Forest: it plays an important role in Behold!, Book No.14 in my Bell Mountain series. I lost a lot of time to illness, but today I’ve finished the first round of editing–and contacted our cover artist, Kirk DuoPonce. Let’s see what he can come up with.

What would happen if a piece of advanced technology from an extinct civilization fell into the hands of people living 1,000 years later? What if the finders wished to use it–although they have no understanding of such things?

And then there are those ships, the first to cross the ocean from the west since Obann’s Empire was destroyed. Will they bring some new disaster with them?

I hope we can get this book on the market in time for Christmas. Next year, maybe The Witch Box will be ready, double climax and all. And I’m looking forward to warmer weather so I can start writing the life of King Ozias. If you like these books, there’s a lot of fun in store for you.

We have no plans to add Oy, Rodney to our schedule. My wife would like to see the adventures of Abombalbap in book form, but I think that might be beyond my powers.

Just Missed the Storm (I Think)

Dark clouds have just swept in to veil the sun, the wind is coming on strong, and it’s getting cold: but I did get four more pages written. One more week of decent weather, and I should be able to finish The Witch Box.

I hated to stop today, but couldn’t help it. I’m really loving this climax (I warn myself again to drop no spoilers).

For my soul’s sake I have avoided the nooze so far today–I hope you don’t mind. It’ll find us soon enough.

P.S.: A certain quokka has reminded me to cheer you on to making comments–we only need a few dozen more to make 80,000.

Message delivered; and now it’s time to relax with a movie.

And here comes the rain. Missed me by just ten minutes.

My New Book Marches On

I was stuck at the bank all morning, arranging Aunt Joan’s finances and providing for her continued care. After what seems like an eternity of frustrated wanderings in a bureaucratic labyrinth, that business seems to be just about done.

It’s been a week since the Lord gave me, out of the blue, a big chunk of the plot of my new book, The Temptation (that would be No. 11 in my Bell Mountain series), and I have steamed ahead to write five chapters of it. Considering all the interruptions and distractions, not bad!

What kind of distractions? Well, yesterday the cops showed up to lead away some guy next door, after cuffing his hands behind his back. He was shirtless. I don’t know who he was or what he might have done, but it was pretty distracting.

Ah! But Lord Chutt found himself in a serious spot of trouble yesterday, and against my expectations, Ysbott the Snake has, at least for the time being, bailed him out of it. I can hardly wait to see what happens next.

But first I’ve got to write it.
