Pet Goat… Zoomies?

It’s not just dogs and cats anymore. Zoomies are really catching on! I don’t know how many people have pet goats in the house; but I’m willing to bet that an animal with hooves can really cut loose with the zoomies.

Hit It, Maestro

Here’s the proof you’ve been waiting for! This is what makes music music! They don’t call Buddy the Dog “Liberace” for nothing.

The above is an extemporaneous piece. Buddy has not learned how to read music, has to play it by ear.

Annoy Your Cat, Part I

It’s said that Aristotle knew 15 ways to annoy a cat, but this is the only one that’s survived.

Besiege her with wind-up toys.

Dogs get into the spirit of the thing, but none of our cats ever did. They only noticed the toys when they became an annoyance.

Fierce Bad Puppies!

Aren’t you glad you’re not a mirror? Puppies gonna get you, puppies gonna get you!

Lots of animals want to fight with their reflections. I had a chameleon who just about popped his cork when he encountered a mirror.

Dog vs. Tank

We bought one of these toy tanks for our cats. Their reaction ranged from vague disapproval to just ignoring the dag-nab thing. The dog here is so much more responsive! What must the little guys inside the tank think of it?

Indecisive Baby Rhino

I had a mouse that used to do this: run up toward something new, then turn and run back to me. This baby rhinoceros is doing pretty much the same thing. Only with him you can’t do it in the living room.

Bear Be Gone!

What tells a cat that he can face down a bear and get away with it? Why does a bear let him do it? We are very, very far from understanding animal psychology–and that’s just our fellow mammals.

Sleepy Cats & Kittens

Holy moly, I can use a nap! Maybe these cats and kittens can show me the shortest way to nap-time. Cats are sleep masters, they all have black belts in it. I wish we had some of them here.

Feeding the Wild Horses

It delights me to know that wild horses still exist, even if I’ll never get up to Alberta to see them. Someone’s been putting out food for them: what it is, I don’t know. We can rule out jello and steak. [Cameo appearance by a pair of grizzly bears.]

Bath Time

A chinchilla can always take a dust bath; but these kittens have to be washed by their mother. It looks like she’s not given to halfway measures.

It makes sense. You’ve never smelt a stinky kitten, have you?
