You and Your Pet Raccoons

I seldom think of how different William Shakespeare’s life would have been if he’d had a couple of pet raccoons. I’ll bet he never would have written Titus Andronicus. (Haven’t had a comment since around noon-time. Maybe this’ll fetch ’em.)

Cats Who Get Stuck

Cats aren’t the only animals who get their heads stuck inside tissue boxes, bags, shoes, etc. But they are way in the lead in that category. I had a monitor lizard who got stuck in things. Oddly, none of our cats ever did.

Not-So-Goofy Dogs!

These are advertised as “goofy dogs,” but I object. What about the dog who invents a way to turn his dog-bed into a sled? There are college students–and more than a few professors–who couldn’t manage that.

Baby Rhinos Are… Nice

Well, yes–they are nice. And cute. Here we have black rhinos, white rhinos, and Indian rhinos, and they all have charming babies. Although before you adopt one as a pet, make sure you have a way to cope with them wallowing in mud-holes. It can be hard on your living room rug.

Everyone’s a Critic… Even Cats

These seem like nice young women. But if they don’t give up singing, which they don’t do very well, someday this cat is going to stuff a dust-bunny into somebody’s mouth. I get this treatment from cats when I play my harmonica, and it’s totally not fair.

Clumsy Dogs

You’d think having four legs instead of two would be a great advantage; but you still have to watch where you’re going and look before you leap. Here are some dogs who have not paid attention to that lesson.

Cats Like Boxes Over Trains

You’ve got this gorgeous plastic train set, you go to the trouble to set it up for your cats to play with–and what do they do? That’s right–they play with the boxes it came in. Wisely the human concedes… and provides more cardboard boxes.

Dogs Tuned In to TV

Do dogs understand that the things they see on a TV screen aren’t really there? It’s a principle that eludes more than a few humans; why should dogs be any different? Even so–two-dimensional images in a three-dimensional world… It can’t be easy for our pets.

Bemused Beasties

Oh, boy! They’ve got a bush baby–and he wants to play handball! Plus a cat who can baa like a lamb… and other cute animals adapting to a world set up by humans.(How well would you or I do in Catworld?)

Dogs Acting Guilty

Dogs are not good at getting away with stuff. It’s like they do it, suddenly realize they were wrong, and try to be very small and quiet–maybe the offended humans might not notice them.
