By Request, ‘Wayfaring Stranger’

I do wish WordPress would stop with the anonymity and let me know who’s posting comments, so I know whom to thank.

For Wayfaring Stranger, thanks, whoever you are.

Sung here by Johnny Cash.

By Request, ‘Wayfaring Stranger’

Here’s something a bit better than election nooze: Johnny Cash singing Wayfaring Stranger. Requested by SlimJim.

We never stop missing our loved ones who have departed this life before us. God gave us that faculty for a reason.

‘Wayfaring Stranger’

This is an old country hymn. You’ve heard it before, even if they never sang it in your church. Wayfaring Stranger, sung here by Jack White–yes, we will all cross over Jordan; and we will meet our Savior face to face.

By Request, ‘Wayfaring Stranger’

Beautiful, soul-stirring–thanks, Joshua, for requesting it! Wayfaring Stranger, sung by Simon Khorolskiy. Just about brought me to tears; but swordsmen can cry.

The singer’s Russian (click CC for English lyrics), the song’s traditional American, and the hymn request comes from Japan. That’s good globalism, and only Christianity has it.

Bonus Hymn, By Request: ‘Wayfaring Stranger’

Requested by Phoebe, Wayfaring Stranger, traditional hymn, sung by Johnny Cash.

The earth is the Lord’s (Ps. 24), and we won’t be estranged from it forever. When Almighty God restores and regenerates His creation, we’ll have no words for how wonderful it is: we’ll have to learn to speak the language of angels.

By Request, ‘Wayfaring Stranger’

We have a hymn request from SlimJim–the old-time spiritual, Wayfaring Stranger. Lots of different artists sing this one: here we have Burl Ives’ version.

‘Wayfaring Stranger’ (Burl Ives)

Ina wanted more Burl Ives, and Patty wanted this hymn in particular, so here it is–Wayfaring Stranger, an old spiritual, sung by Burl Ives. Short but sweet.

Hymn, ‘Wayfaring Stranger’

For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.  –Hebrews 11:14

Occupy until I come.   –Luke 19:13

This is a sweet old hymn, a folk hymn, with a message that we are but pilgrims and sojourners upon God’s earth, on our way to His Kingdom.

But the earth is the Lord’s, too; and when we finally get to where we’re going, we want to hear Him say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
