‘Ave Maria’ (Bocelli)

Ave Maria, sung by Andrea Bocelli–remember, everybody: this has become a time in history when we all have to sing louder. And forget the denominations: it’s Christ’s people vs. the antichrists. God has richly endowed us with enemies, we don’t have to fight each other.

And it would’ve been a shame not to put this on the Your Favorite Hymns list.

‘Are You Washed in the Blood?’

The lady said “Sing louder!”, so that’s exactly what we’re gonna do. Requested by Phoebe: Are You Washed in the Blood?, with an audience that’s up for it.

Well, we’d better be up for it: this is one of those times that try men’s souls.

By Request, ‘Rise Again’

Erlene requested this, so here it is–Rise Again, by Dallas Holm.

The wagon’s only half-full of Your Favorite Hymns, we use them up fast–so if you have a hymn or two, or half a dozen hymns, that you’d like to share, just let us know.

‘How Great Thou Art’

I grew up with this hymn. My mother and my aunts used to sing it as they did their housework. I like this rendition by Alan Jackson: How Great Thou Art. And remember, we’re always looking to add to the list of Your Favorite Hymns. If you’ve got a hymn or two, or half a dozen of them that you’d like to share, just let us know.

‘O, Sacred Head Surrounded’

Lyrics by St. Bernard of Clairvaux, music by Johann Sebastian Bach–next on the list of Your Favorite Hymns, O, Sacred Head Surrounded.

Hard to believe this was one of the songs in our seventh-grade concert.

‘Ten Thousand Angels Cried’

Let’s see… What’s next in “:Your Favorite Hymns”? [Ruffles papers] Ah, here it is–Ten Thousand Angels Cried, by the Heritage Singers.

We are blessed in that we live in a time and a place from which such cruelties as crucifixion have long since been removed. But sin remains; and if we’re not exceedingly careful, and mindful of God’s law, the cruelty can always be brought back–usually by someone who lusts for control over other people.

The right to rule belongs to Christ alone.

‘I Woke Up This Morning With My Mind Stayed on Jesus’

Your Favorite Hymns continues with I Woke Up This Morning with My Mind Stayed on Jesus, sung by the congregation at Southern Church of Christ, led by Rev. Jason Walker, in Durham, NC. High-energy worship!

‘I Must Tell Jesus’

I’d never heard this hymn before–beautiful, isn’t it? Sounds Like Reign uses technology to multiply themselves: it’s how one musician can play several different instruments (without being a one-man band!) in the same song. I Must Tell Jesus, performed at home by Sounds Like Reign.

‘Baruch haba B’Shem Adonai’

Two readers called for this one on the same day, so here it is: Baruch haba B’shem Adonai, by Paul Wilbur (“Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord”).

“Your Favorite Hymns” is for everybody. If you’ve got a hymn, or two hymns, or half a dozen of them that you’d like to share, just let us know.

‘The Love of God’

I’d never heard this beautiful hymn before, but there it was on the list of Your Favorite Hymns. The Love of God, sung in gorgeous harmony by the Mennonite Hour Singers: and background sets by God the Father.
