By Request, ‘God Bless America’

Requested by my Pogo friend, Sue–God Bless America. And how can I do better than to post it as sung, iconically, by Kate Smith? This was filed at a hockey championship game in 1974.

  1. May God indeed bless America, already so blessed.

My own prayer these days is “God save America.”

    1. I love the end of the last stanza of “The Star-Spangled Banner”:

“…And conquer we must when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: ‘In God is our trust.’
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

I used to belt that out in my car sometimes on my way to work.

  2. This is amazing. I have been thinking of this song all morning, and remembering how we used to sing it all the time in school. Kate was always the best.

  3. If God’s actions still apply to the nations He created, and we know they do, as He never changes, then our requirement is to repent of our turning away from Him as a nation, turn back in humility, and THEN He will bless us.
