This Day Got Away From Me

First, the good news.

I woke up this morning completely pain free in my right hand.  It was like there never had been a problem.  Glad to dodge that bullet, because tendonitis can last for weeks and yesterday it was really bad.

However, and maybe many of you have experienced the same thing, even if you only are stopping at the local convenience store for one item, it will somehow eat up more than an hour of your time.  I did take the car for a short spin (it needs exercise, too) but it just seemed to take up much  more time than I expected.

I had planned to do a couple of specific things today — like trimming my hellebore, for instance.  That never got done.  I wanted to take advantage of today because it was nice and sunny (although extremely windy) and we are heading into a couple of days of rain.  Again.

No word on the katana yet.  I know, it has only been a couple of days.  Just eager to get that off the list.

Well, the best-laid plans of mice and men, etc.

At least my hand doesn’t hurt.

Pray for our troops.

God bless everybody.

In My Infinite Wisdom

As I have been saying for a while now, I feel keenly the lack of exercise.

The other day I was reading about how grip strength is a marker of health, so I took Lee’s exercise squeeze ball, which they gave him in the hospital, and proceeded to use it for a while.

Well, I evidently squeezed for too long and for far too hard.

Bottom line–I gave myself  a nice case of tendonitis in my right hand.  The right hand, of course–the good old dominant hand.

Now (and probably for the next 2 weeks or so) I have to pick up my coffee cup with both hands, cannot grip a pen normally, have pain  getting my arm into my coat and have rendered myself quite useless.  Nice going, Pat.  What’s your next trick? Falling down the stairs, maybe?

Last night, when I made chili for supper, I had a great time opening the can of tomatoes and the can of beans.  It was really excruciatingly painful to turn that can opener.

So the next time I attempt some form of self improvement, I have to remember – moderation is the key.  Life is always teaching us lessons–sometimes quite painfully.

Pray for our troops.

God bless everybody.

Everyday Can’t Be As Good As Yesterday

Very bad weather today.  Dark, gray overcast and rainy.  We are supposed to get a little snow tonight.  It got very cold again.

Didn’t do much today–but every day can’t be as good as yesterday was.

I am hoping to hear some good news  soon.

As is, I am grateful for what I have, my upcoming chili for supper and maybe a scary movie.

Pray for our troops.

God bless everybody.

No Wrap Up Today

Today I finally put out Lee’s handwritten manuscripts.  It was a lot harder on me than I thought it would be.  These are all for books that are already published and printed.  It was still hard, though.

Then I read how the Iranian conflict is spreading and escalating.  More countries are involved.  Russia is helping Iran and China is playing both sides of the fence.  No surprise there.

I am just out of gas and I will see you all tomorrow.

Pray for our troops.

God bless everybody

So Why Was I Tired All Day?

Go figure.  Today was absolutely great–warm, sunny and beautiful.

So why was I exhausted all day?

Right from the morning, when I have my morning energy burst–right through the whole day–I could not get it together.  Everything just seemed to be hard to do because I was so very tired.  I mean falling-asleep tired.

It seemed like every thing I wanted to post was a no-go.  It gets really annoying when you watch a whole video (to check the content and make sure it is suitable) go to post it and are told it is not available for sharing. Then why, pray tell do you show a sharing button?

Maybe it got too warm, too quickly, or maybe it’s a delayed reaction to Daylight Saving Time, I dunno.

I just checked the temperature in here and it is 81. No wonder I am tired.

Duh.

All I know right now is that I want to have my supper and have an early night.  Things should be better tomorrow.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Pray for our troops.

God bless everybody.

This Day Really Turned Around

This morning was really lousy.  First, the good old Daylight Saving Time robbed me of an hour of sleep.  Then it was the usual gray, overcast and gloomy type of day that really kills any ambition I might have after being sleep-deprived.

Then around 2 in the afternoon, the sun came out for a brief period and the temperature really went up.  It felt like Spring!  I could take off my quilted puffer coat (the garment I have been living in for what seems like eternity) and put on my light unlined windbreaker.  What a change.  It is gray again, but the warmth makes all the difference.

Then, to boot, I had a really nice, long talk with my daughter on the phone.  She is not too much of a phone person, but she had lots of news from work, and we discussed other things as well.  It was great.

The silence around here gets to me, sometimes.

Tomorrow I want to clean up my hellebore plant.  The other name for it is the Lenten Rose, as it blooms (with dark purple, almost black flowers) in March every year faithfully.  Oh to be able to get my hands dirty again.

So, a day that started out seeming like it would be business as usual, turned out to be really great.

Pray for our troops.

God bless everybody.

Not a good picture of the hellebore–I ‘ll show you a better one (if I can) after I cut it back.  This is from several years ago.

A Really Busy Day

Today was a really busy day.

I received the CDs that contained Mark Rushdoony’s biography of his father the other day.  For some weird reason, my computer’s built-in DVD player would not play them.

I called our computer technician, Adam, this morning and he fixed the problem.   It took a while as there was also a problem with my automatic backup. The great part is that he can do all of that remotely because we are connected.  He is a whiz and we have relied on his expertise for around 20 years.

I started to read Mark’s book, and right now I think I may do a daily review of the book, section by section, rather than one overall review as there is so much material.  Rushdoony led such an incredibly interesting and productive life that I think that would be the best approach.  I’m not sure yet, but will figure out what is best.

Very gray and overcast again here today, but they are insisting that later in the week we will have really springlike temperatures and sunshine.  There are a few crocuses, sprouting on the lawn.  They are so lovely.  Purple and white.

Did not do much in the way of any projects today.  I didn’t put out those notes of Lee’s because although I don’t have a problem disposing of them, somehow I just can’t put them out in the rain.  Funny, how the mind works.

Pray for our troops.

God bless everybody.

Getting Bogged Down in Memories

Today I started sorting out Lee’s hand written manuscripts.  He always wrote his books longhand on yellow pads and there were quite a few of them still around.

Many of them are of books that are already in print, so they can go.

However, there were other items that I have to look into more carefully.

It was truly bittersweet to see the dates on those pads.  Lots of memories, placing  events and things in time, what was going on with us then, etc.  It was not an easy task for me.

Speaking of heart-wrenching..when I was going through the animal videos  today, deciding which to post, I came upon the one where a puppy offered the one single thing he had to his rescuers.  A piece of bread.  I know that was a precious thing to that little soul–the only thing he had.  I was brought to tears.  Sometimes it is very hard for me to understand what God sees in us.  That puppy should never have been in that condition in that place.

On a lighter note, the phone is just perfect.  It is amazing what you can get used to–that phone was so bad–it took getting it repaired for me to realize how bad it was.

It is supposed to get close to 7o by Thursday (with sunshine) and I am truly looking forward to it.  Maybe I can get outside and trim my poor hellebore.  Its looking pretty bad.

Pray for our troops.

God bless everybody.

I Thought Today Was Thursday

Yes, somehow I thought today was Thursday.  I ran around like a maniac, straightening and tidying because the phone tech was coming.  When I was on the phone with my friend in Florida, it came up in conversation that it was Wednesday.  Well, that sure gave me a jump on tomorrow.

I think the butcher who fills the online orders at WholeFoods must have been drinking on the job when I put my order in yesterday. Yesterday, instead of loin lamb chops, he sent a different cut.  And today when I opened up what were supposed to be boneless short ribs, it was a nice small pot roast.  Fine, I’ll take it.  Whole Foods has a very detailed system. After every delivery you are sent a questionnaire–they want to know if you are satisfied, if not, why and ask what they can do to correct it.  If they make a substitution and you are not happy, they will refund your money.  It is a great system and I have always been happy with their choices.

Another thing–Lee’s manuscript has not arrived at Chalcedon yet.  Hopefully it will get there today.  I have the tracking number, but I sincerely hope it does not come to that.

Well that’s about it for today.

Pray for our troops.

God bless everybody.

Lousy Day, Weather-wise

Today was one of those New Jersey specials.  Gray, dark, with a fairly steady mix of sleet and rain. Yuck.

The upside was that when I went to Walgreen’s to get my prescription, there was nobody waiting in line at the pharmacy.  I was in and out in 5 minutes.  Usually there is a line there.

I avoided the candy section, because it would be full of marshmallow Peeps,(which Lee loved) and which I used to get him for his Easter basket every year– along with a ton of other candies.  Once when I was checking out his stuff the clerk asked me how many children I was buying candy for.  When I told her it was all for my husband, she was floored.  He made it last, though, he didn’t gobble it down all at once.

Spent some time doing my bank reconciliation.  One of the myriad of doctors that saw Lee when he was in the hospital finally cashed his check.  From October!  I was almost ready to write it off.

Other than that, a quiet and rather gloomy day.

We are in for a few days of rain.  I don’t mind as I don’t have anywhere to go right now.

I will be very interested in what the phone technician says on Thursday.  I really hope he can fix whatever is going on because the static (which comes in random bursts) gets so loud I literally cannot hear what the person on the other end is saying.

That’s about it for now.

God bless everybody.
