‘He Gave Me a Song’

I’m almost all alone here this morning; let’s see if a hymn will bring an audience. Let’s try this one–He Gave Me a Song, by the Green Mountain Men’s Choir. They don’t need musical instruments; their voices are musical instruments.

If you’re new here: We love to take hymn requests! If you have a hymn you’d like to share, just leave a comment anywhere on the blog and we’ll do the rest.

‘He Could Have Called Ten Thousand Angels’

This hymn, sung by Blue Rock Mennonite Youth, retells the story of the Crucifixion–He Could Have Called Ten Thousand Angels. I find the older I get, the harder it is to contemplate the Crucifixion of Our Lord. What a world this is! that tramples down the holiest of all.

‘To Be a Pilgrim’ (John Bunyan’s Hymn)

I haven’t posted this in a while, have I? To Be a Pilgrim, sung lustily and with good spirit by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band–I found myself singing it yesterday, as I drove to the White Castle. But I’m sure you would rather hear Maddy Prior.

‘Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing’

This was the hymn that was in my head last night, so this is the hymn I post this morning–Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing. This lovely version is by the students of Fountainview Academy, on their visit to Hawaii.

‘Will the Circle Be Unbroken’ (Instrumental)

Here’s another treat from our own dear friends and colleagues, Joshua and Jeremy (where have you guys been all week?)–Will the Circle Be Unbroken. We have to give them more encouragement to sing as they play, so let’s do that.

Bonus Hymn, ‘It Is Well With My Soul’

All right, no more nooze today–here’s something better.

I found this hymn featured on Marcia Settles’ “A Mom Looking Up” blog today–It Is Well With My Soul, sung by Anthem Lights. As for our sin, the hymn says, “It is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more.” Amen.

‘All That Thrills My Soul is Jesus’

Here’s a hymn I never heard before–no fear we’ll run out of hymns–All That Thrills My Soul is Jesus, sung by the Mennonite Hour Men’s Choir. Background sets by God the Father.

We’re taking hymn requests today, folks. Feel free to join in.

‘Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart’

This was the first hymn that popped into my head this morning, so it’s the hymn I’m posting–Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart, sung by the choir and congregation at Grace Community Church, Sun Valley, California.

‘Christ for the World we Sing’

This hymn came to me yesterday and stayed around for a while–which to me always means it ought to be the next hymn I post: Christ for the World We Sing, sung hear by the sanctuary choir at the First United Methodist Church, Houston.

Bonus Hymn, ‘Jesus Saves’

I’m feeling all worn out today, like somebody erased half of me when I wasn’t looking; and I felt a need for this particular hymn, right now–Jesus Saves. Sung at the 2012 Synold of the United Reformed Church of North America, held at Nyack College, NY. That’s the Hudson River up there; you get a very nice view from Nyack.
