Book Review: ‘Is Atheism Dead?’

If you believe what you see on PBS or read in Time, you might easily form the impression that scientists are in a united front against “religion” in general and Christianity in particular.

Not so, writes Eric Metaxas. And he has the evidence to prove it.

Metaxas interviewed many credentialed scientists who are not atheists. They pointed to gaping holes in the atheist argument, and didn’t mind being quoted by name. They cited any number of reasons why a godless, materialistic universe simply can’t be. Their opinion is based on their observations of nature, and their discoveries.

Prominent, face-time=grabbing atheists–Richard Dawkins springs to mind–get their fair share of pies in the face. Don’t ask me to paraphrase the scientific arguments: I know my limitations. The book itself is well worth reading; and you’ll find some surprises in it.

Scientists Are A New Force In The Freelance Revolution: Meet Kolabtree

Just because they aren’t covered doesn’t mean they aren’t there.

I was reaching a point in my career where I viewed all “science” with radical skepticism, deeming them nothing better than henchmen for the global Far Left Crazy.

I was happy to discover I was wrong!

Good News—About Science

True, we almost never get to hear from or hear about the honest scientists out there. Our in-the-bag nooze media ignores them and pours out oceans of ink for the atheist, globalism, reductionist fringe. You begin to think bad science in the service of bad politics, as reported by bad journalism, is the only science left in town.

That’s what they want you to think. And it isn’t true.

Surprised by Science

Is Atheism Dead?

I’d gotten into the habit of thinking of today’s “science” as a disreputable jumble of Climbit Change, “gender” crapola, evolution, and getting lied to In The Name Of Science by leftids and globalists.

But this book by Eric Metaxas, Is Atheism Dead?, has truly surprised me.

I’ll be writing a review for Chalcedon, but here I’d very much like to say that going down the stretch, I was blown away by the number of real scientists out there who are NOT atheists: they believe in God, believe that the Bible is God’s Word, and find in their scientific inquiries abundant confirmation of their Christianity.

Why was I surprised by that? Years ago, I interviewed Dr. Mary Schweitzer, who was the first to discover intact soft tissue in dinosaur fossils. How could I have forgotten her? She’s a Christian, and until her findings were amply confirmed by others, the scientific establishment came down on her like a falling safe. They’d have given anything to convince her to recant. But she had the courage to hang on, and now dino soft tissue has been found in many fossils. Now it’s a fact.

But it was the bad guys in science, atheists like Carl Sagan and Neil DeGrasse Tyson, who got all the friendly press, all the fame, and TV series and specials on PBS. So there are very many scientists, in Metaxas’ book, who stand tall for the truth of the Bible and have not consented to be silenced. It’s a wonderful thing, just to know they’re out there… and that Sagan, Tyson, & Co. have not been able to seal the deal.

I’ll have to modify my low opinion of 21st-century science. Because, based on incomplete, politically tainted, bogus “information”… I was wrong!

P.S.–I also interviewed Dr. Bob Bakker, a Christian who, not too many years ago, did more than anyone to change the public perception of dinosaurs: in his time, one of the world’s leading paleontologists. He was too famous to be canceled.
