Colors of the Fall

Five Tips For Photographing Fall Foliage - Digital Photo

I had to take the laundry this morning, hop into my car–and holy cow! You wouldn’t believe the glory of our trees!

My town has always been known for its beautiful trees, wherever they can stop orcs from chopping ’em down; and this fall, wow! Some of the leaves are so bright, it looks like the tree’s on fire–like Moses’ burning bush.

This is the work of the Lord, His mind, His hands. Nothing in this world is perfect, but the Fall season does have its compensations.

Oh, I wish you could see these trees…

The Wonder of Autumn

Jambo, everybody, Mr. Nature here! And for this safari, all I’ve got to do is look out the window.

I could have sworn that on Friday the leaves of all these maple trees were green; but on Saturday morning, they were all gold. Which means they turned overnight? How did they do that? I mean, hey, that was really fast! (My wife says yes, they were still green on Friday: she noticed, too.)

I could look up and study the natural processes by which green maple leaves turn to gold; but I think I’d rather just marvel at it. Come on, now–the leaves turned color overnight! Is that cool?

This is Mr. Nature, loving God’s stuff.

When the Lord Plies His Paintbrush

I wish I knew how to take my own pictures and post them on this blog. I would’ve had something very fine for you today.

Today we have a dark, rainy, windy day, but I had occasion to go out in it. And as I was driving home from the store, I saw something which moved me to cry out, “Oh! Oh, beautiful!”

They were nothing out of the ordinary–just red maple trees. But during the week that had passed since I last went that way, they’d all been dressed in their full fall foliage, bright crimson, interspersed with a few trees now wearing gold. Their beauty took me utterly by surprise, as if I were seeing them for the very first time.

That’s when it’s a good time to say a prayer of praise and thanksgiving. Who but God the Creator could have painted this scene? And here it was given to me, an unexpected gift.

“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead…” (Romans i:20)

We can’t see the invisible things of God, but we can see His handiwork, His art: it’s all around us, everywhere we look.

This is indeed my Father’s world.
