Stand-Up Cats

It is said that T.S. Eliot had a  cat that could not only stand up on its hind legs, but also tap-dance to Oh, Them Golden Slippers. We don’t have to believe that. But here we have living proof–real, bona fide video of cats walking tall like human beings. And they’re a lot better at it than we are when we try to walk on all fours.

The Infinite Variety of Cat Antics

Shakespeare said of Cleopatra, “Age cannot wither her, nor custom stale her infinite variety.” Never mind the age part. But if you want infinite variety, cats have Cleopatra beat by miles.

Much of what cats do argues for a very high level of intelligence. And some of what they do argues for a high level of tomfoolery. In this they closely resemble human beings.

The Gigantic Colossal Kitten

Good grief, I didn’t know there were kittens this big! Imagine how big they’ll be when they grow up! How many cans of Fancy Feast will this baby eat in a day? Look at that, he just dwarfs the furniture!

And then–and then–great balls o’ fire! A gigantic hand! I mean, how is that person going to fit inside the house, when just his hand takes up the whole room?

Waddaya mean, it’s just a doll house…?

Pets in Compromising Positions

Animals can have embarrassing moments, too. See the poor tortoise trying to mate with a flip-flop. (To Linda: Notice this turtle vocalizes! Just like yours.) The cat who hasn’t quite mastered the art of unrolling a roll of toilet paper. The dog who honestly doesn’t want to fetch the ball out of the water. (Maybe he just saw Jaws.) Anyway, here they are–with all their charm intact.

Count the Kittens

There are three kittens playing in this boxfull of holes. Or is it four? Watch this for a minute, and you won’t know anymore. Don’t you wish you had their energy? Well, maybe you would, if you had a box of holes to play around in.

Your Pets Are Watching You

Cats and dogs and birds–they’ve got their eyes on you. Don’t even think about getting away with anything. If other people watched us this intently, we’d get nervous about it. But I guess these little fuzzy fellows only do it ’cause they have inquiring minds or something.

A Unique Dog-Walking Service

Too tired to walk your dog? Tough day at work, late getting home, you’ve had it–but Rover still has to go for his walk.

Hey, no problem! Relax–and let the cat do it. As you can see by the video, Mr. Fluffy’s dog-walking service will bring Rover up the stairs and right back to your door.

Now, if we could only get the dog to change the cat’s litter box…

A Cat Who Doesn’t Like to Sleep Alone

I’ve never had a cat so attached to a stuffed toy that she wanted to bring it to bed with her. Well, it takes all kinds.

BTW, if that’s a water bed in this video, someone’s in for heavy weather if the cats keep kneading it with their claws. A friend of mine went out once and forgot to put her guinea pig back in its cage. He soon encountered her water bed and did what you might expect. No one caught on until the water started coming down through the ceiling onto our supper table.

Not-So-Cuddly Kitties

Some of these people are really asking for it, provoking their cats as they do; and they get it, too. Reminds me of a friend of mine who had a not very friendly iguana. He taunted the great big lizard one day by sticking his tongue out at it, up close and personal–and got it practically bitten off, to the great amusement of his audience.

Don’t mess with cats. It doesn’t pay.

A Cat Who Can’t Win

I sympathize with this cat. I know how hard it is to catch fish, even with a rod and reel. But this challenge is just too much, despite the cat’s valiant and persistent efforts. I suppose one could saw a hole in the ice for Kitty, but somehow there’s something wrong with that idea.
