Bonus Hymn, ‘In Christ Alone’

I’m posting this hymn again because I want to declare the object of my faith, the sole God in whom I trust–In Christ Alone (performed by Keith and Kristyn Getty). To quote the very first line of the lyrics: “In Christ alone my hope is found.”

Not in any global government, or any government of any kind. Not in The Smartest People in the World slapping each other on the back as they swill expensive drinks in Davos. Not in managers, mavens, or morons. Not in judge-of-all-the-earth wannabes who couldn’t umpire a softball game, let alone govern all the earth.

In Christ alone. My king, and the only king whose right it is.

The Lord said unto my lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.   (Psalm 110:1)

We have to hang on until He does it.

I know, I know, I posted it recently–well, here it is again. In Christ Alone–this hymn kept tugging at me this morning, so I thought I’d better go with it. I don’t know who these singers are, but I like what they’ve done. If you know more, please share.

Linda asked for this one, In Christ Alone, with Fernando Ortega. I can’t tell whether he performed the music or arranged it, or both–but I don’t suppose it matters. This is surely one of the best new worship songs of our time. In fact, having made it into many churches’ hymnals (but not the PCUSA’s–too Biblical for them), it counts as a hymn.

Let’s welcome Linda back by posting and playing this hymn she has requested, In Christ Alone–a beautiful rendition of it, but I don’t know whose it is.

Linda’s back from the hospital but still has a hard climb ahead of her, medically: we need to keep her in our prayers, big-time.

O Lord our God! All healing comes from you. Shed your grace on our sister Linda Sorci, and her husband Michael, and deliver her out of danger. Please, Lord–in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Would you believe this beautiful hymn is controversial? It’s true: flatline churches don’t like that line, “The wrath of God was satisfied.” It’s a bit too grown-up for their sensibilities.

Requested by Linda, In Christ Alone–written by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend, rejected for the PCUSA hymnal for the sake of that one line, here performed by Getty and his wife, Krystyn.

“The White Rabbit” asked for this one–In Christ Alone, performed by Keith and Kristyn Getty.

You may remember this as the hymn the Presbyterian Church USA refused to include in its hymnal unless the authors got rid of that line about the wrath of God being satisfied, because the PCUSA doesn’t think God has anything to be wrathful about–and they want to protect your “choice” to kill your baby, but take away your choice to sing this hymn at one of their church services.

Well, anyway, it’s beautiful, it’s reverent, and it’s here.

Look Who Rejected the Hymn

Would you believe this was part of a church denomination’s general assembly?

Today’s hymn (see below), In Christ Alone, has a controversy to go with it.

Written by Keith Getty and Stewart Townend, the hymn quickly caught on and was popular in many churches–so much so, it wound up being included in those churches’ new hymnals.

The Presbyterian Church USA considered putting it in their hymnal–but only if the authors agreed to change the words of one line: from “the wrath of God was satisfied” (by Jesus’ death on the cross) to “the love of God was magnified.” The authors refused, so In Christ Alone isn’t in the PCUSA hymnal.

The PCUSA! Who pranced around costumed as animals and pagan gods at their 2010 General Assembly (http://www.staffordcarson.com/2010/08/pcusa-general-assembly/)–and just try and see the video of that embarrassing display. They pulled it off the Internet. Trust me, you wouldn’t have believed your eyes.

This may be the flattest of the flatline Protestant denominations. They ordain unrepentant, openly-practicing homosexuals as ministers and elders of the church. They are hemorrhaging members and probably won’t be here anymore to greet the next century.

And they don’t want hear no “wrath of God” talk! ‘Cause there ain’t no wrath of God! All their feminist theology professors at the seminaries say so.

Within  various flatline denominations there is a movement to reject the doctrine of the Atonement. Excuse me! If Jesus was not taking the punishment for our sins, not paying the bill for them, then what was He doing on the cross? Why was He there? Because it seemed like a good idea at the time?

We should weep for the apostasy of churches.
