Day 3: Decorations

(Look at that: the old cheap laptop computer will let me post an image. The new fancy-schmancy computer won’t.)

Well, I did it. All the decorations. The tree looks wonderful, despite its being a bit tilted: couldn’t solve that.

I am whatcha call beat. All that up and down. And the computer has decided not to let me post an image. Three times I’ve tried… and struck out. Brand-new computer.

But now I can listen to Christmas carols, and rest, and tomorrow we’ll have nothing to do here but a few blog posts… and then watch Scrooge. The 1950 classic with Alistair Sim.

(He tries one more time to post an image–nope, no go.)

Oh, Christmas Tree!

Today we started our annual project of the Christmas tree. Last year I tried to do everything on the same day, Dec. 24, and just plum ran out of gas before I could add the lights. So this year the job is going to be done in three stages, and today was Day One. (I’m sure this used to be a lot easier, 20 years ago.)

From where I’m sitting now, the tree looks slightly crooked. But Robbie’s already cuddled under it, and that has to count for something.

Day Two, put on the lights. We still use a string of lights from my grandpa’s general store, circa 1930. They still work.

Day Three, add decorations. That was the part that wiped me out last year.

I think this means that I can rest on Christmas Eve.

Maybe we can have a cyber-Christmas party. You’ll all be welcome.

Our Tree Is Up!

How To Decorate A Christmas Tree Like A Professional

Two hours of constant motion, but it was worth it–our Christmas tree is fully decorated.

Boy, we have a lot of ornaments! But I wouldn’t part with them–some of them have been in our family for three generations. Our string of lights, for example, is from the early 1930s, from my grandpa’s store. They all still work.

So we’ve got ornaments from my mother and father, both sets of grandparents, aunts and uncles–all gone on to glory by now, but all still loved and none forgotten. I remember them as I attach their decorations to our tree. Their tree, too!

When we all sit down together in God’s Kingdom, we’ll remember the Christmases we shared on earth.

Our Tree Is Done! (And I’m Done For)

Two hours of non-stop motion, much of it consisting of bending up and down–and our Christmas tree is decorated! Huzzah! I’m beat!

You’ll pardon for posting a picture of last year’s Christmas tree. Our camera’s been temperamental lately.

Why is it such a big job? my sister wondered. “You must have an awful lot of ornaments.”

Forsooth, we have a prodigious lot of ornaments! And I know the history of each and every one, too. Many of them once belonged to family members who have passed on but are certainly not forgotten. I couldn’t bear to leave those off the tree.

After I sleep, or crash, or just plain plotz, we shall throw open the doors of our imaginary Victorian house for our cyber-Christmas party. I hope you all can make it! We’ll have carol singing (with my imaginary harpsichord), all sorts of games, and food and drink like you wouldn’t believe.

But for now I feel like I just fell down the stairs, so see you in a bit.
