Video Treat: Cats Are Not Always That Smart

Behold a lot of cats who wind up in one of those “Now what do I do??” moments. You do wonder what they were thinking when they embarked on some of these enterprises.

Makes them more like people than we thought!

Sanity Break: Pet Chinchilla

Did you ever see a cuter animal than this? It’s a pet chinchilla.

When I was a boy there was a fad for raising chinchillas at home, with the idea of getting rich by selling their pelts. I knew people who did this, but none of them got rich; and I’m glad that fad has petered out. People cheated themselves out of knowing and loving, and being loved by, some mighty appealing little critters.

Tut-tut! Naughty Cat

Dig this–bold as brass, the cat invades a neighbor’s property and walks off with one of his plush toys. A little weak on the law, I guess.

This is how our Robbie, when she was just a tiny kitten, used to carry my wife’s slippers around the living room. But she never went next door for someone else’s slippers.

P.S.–I have successfully resisted the temptation to post a video about somebody’s pet clam.

How to Cuddle Your Owl

I don’t think I can manage any more bad news today–so this, instead.

My cats put me to sleep when they cuddle me. But an owl? I had no idea. Looks like it would be pretty easy to cork off, cuddling your owl. Looks like the owl enjoys it, too.

God’s stuff always works, and is always full of surprises for us. For which we give thanks!

Video Treat: Cats & Owls

The owl and the pussycat went to sea/ But first they knocked over the Christmas tree…

Owls and cats can become good friends. How long did it take for that to be discovered?

Sanity Break: They Fought Sleep, and Sleep Won

All these animals–cats and dogs, kittens and puppies, a bear cub, a duckling, a bunny, and even a mongoose–have one thing in common: they just can’t stay awake for another minute. Don’t you know that feeling? Like when you’re reading in bed and you begin to suspect that you’ve read the same paragraph at least three times…

Sanity Break: Pets Taking Baths

Dogs, cats, monkeys, even a hedgehog–they’re all enjoying bath time. Who would’ve thought it?

The only pet I ever had that seemed to like getting a bath was my iguana. He got lost in our family’s drop-down ceiling once, and when he finally found his way back out, he was black instead of green. As I was away on an out-of-state job interview, my sister bathed him–complete with brush, in places. And he was totally a good boy about it.

Video Treat: Bunnies’ Playtime

If you don’t like harmless and entirely benign video featuring pet bunnies, hey, I’m sorry–this is to get the taste of the day’s news out of my mouth.

Observe how pointedly the cat ignores the bunnies. Cats do hate being upstaged, don’t they?

Anyhow, here’s someone who went to a great deal of trouble so her bunnies could have their playtime in the house. As Aunt Joan always used to say, “She’ll get her reward in heaven for that.”

Video Treat: Baby Goats

You farm folks have seen all this before, but out here in leaf-blower country, baby goats are only a little less rare than centaurs. Anyway, these are cute.

You should’ve seen how Robbie the cat reacted when I played this. Something about a bunch of baby goats baa-ing really wound her up.
