Red Pandas–in the Snow

As I sit here pouring assorted liquids down my throat, and starting to feel bloated even though there’s still a great deal yet to go, my wife was watching video of red pandas. And suddenly it seemed to me that nothing would be finer than to hold one of these babies in my lap and shower it with kisses.

God’s creatures will do that to you sometimes.

And then, like icing on the cake, the video treated us to a snowy day.

Adorable Red Pandas

These little guys look like they ought to be in a Star Wars movie. They’d steal the show.

Red Pandas live in China and are probably (no one’s quite sure) related to raccoons. They seem to get along with people.

Offhand, I can’t think of any other animal that’s dark on the bottom and lighter on top. Can you?

Special Video Treat: Red Pandas

There’s butt I could kick today, nooze I might cover–but I think it better to try to relax into a sabbath day of rest (if your sabbath is Saturday, that’s fine, too).

So! Has God ever made a cuter, prettier, more smile-raising creature than the red panda? Yes, we’ve learned to call them pandas, although scientists say they’re not related to the giant panda. Scientists can make up their minds about what animals go into which families.

Odd panda fact: Most animals–think mammals, reptiles, fish–are lighter-colored, or even white, on the bottom and darker on top. with the red panic, the opposite is true. Makes you wonder, doesn’t it?

Don’t miss the red panda. I’ve never seen one in a video before. What a gorgeous animal!

But like everybody else in this installment, the panda gets spooked. A few of these victims are pranked on purpose by other household pets. My cat Henry used to like to jump out on you when you least expected it. It would’ve been horribly scary, coming from a giant spider; but your cat? Naaah…
