This hymn has been around since circa 700 A.D.–and here, across the street, they’ve been playing it on the bells of St. Francis’ Church.
Here we have it by The Petersens… with a little bit of a country spin.

I like this country version!
I’m so glad you feel up to commenting today, Phoebe. Extra prayers all around.
Thank you, Lee. I was actually able (barely) to get out to the store to get some groceries that I was running out of. But I’m still kind of sick, and hoping I can manage to get to church tomorrow morning, since I’m scheduled for two hours of Eucharistic Adoration in addition to my sacristan chores. Sunday will be even harder, since the other sacristan won’t be there and I’ll have to do all the cleanup by myself. I’m trying to rest and drink lots of liquids and hope for the best.
Can’t they give you a little time off? They don’t want you keeling over, I presume.
Well, “they” aren’t technically my boss, since I’m just a volunteer. But I feel guilty leaving everything for the other sacristan (who’s also in her 80s) to do. There used to be another sacristan, but he’s no longer around ever since his surgery last year in which he lost part of his left leg — and by the way, he’s 90 years old. So when Nancy picked up his duties, I offered to take on some of Nancy’s chores in addition to the cleanup that I was doing. If I keep absenting myself, Nancy will essentially be doing three people’s work all by herself. Anyway, I’ll do what I can.
I remember that surgery; we prayed about it. I’m glad your friend survived it.
No one can say you take your calling lightly!
Really nice. God bless the Petersens.
Amazing how long this been around
