‘Jesus Said, “It Is Not for You to Know”‘ (2016)

I re-run this post every now and then because this poor fallen world seems to be growing worse by the day, with flagrant ungodliness everywhere we look, and it wouldn’t surprise me if those headhunters from the World Economic Fund were plotting to kill and eat us. So, yes, we have powerful incentives to long for Christ’s return.

Only we can’t know when it’ll be.

Jesus Said, ‘It Is Not for You to Know’

Even after He rose from the dead, even after He was just about to ascend to Heaven, Our Lord had to deal with what seems, today, like a really silly question: Now would He bring back the kingdom of Israel? Throughout His entire ministry He talked about the Kingdom of God–and they thought He just meant them?

God loves and honors us by admitting us into His labors–like a mother allowing her little girl to “help” her in the kitchen. But the cookbook is way out of our reach, up on the counter; and even if we could get up there to see it, we wouldn’t be able to read it.

“Watch.” And “Occupy until I came.” That’s what He said. That’s what we must do.

What Did Ezekiel See?

Esoteric-Exoteric Mystical Vision (Ezekiel 1) (Shavuot) | jewish ...

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve read through the Bible. This morning I came again to Ezekiel Chapter 1; and again I shake my head and wonder, “What was that?”

I’ve never seen an illustration that does it justice. To me it reads like some poor guy who’s burst into a local police station, trying to tell the cops about some incredible thing he’s seen, and he can’t get the words to make any sense.

We can be reasonably sure that Ezekiel’s description of his vision made more sense to his contemporary audience than it does to us. But are we sure we have to think it through? Are we sure we have to decipher it? I mean, who says so? Is it not enough to understand that this whole thing is about being in the presence of God–and of course it’s going to sound like crazy-talk when we try to describe it.

How are we, being flesh, to make sense of spiritual things? How are we, being earthly, to speak of heavenly things? Of course it’s going to come out weird. A lesser man than a prophet would’ve fainted dead away. Ezekiel, both a prophet and a priest, certainly seems to be having a hard enough time just keeping his head from falling off.

If the vision made perfect sense to us… it’d probably be fake.

But at least we can get this meaning from it: God is–and is He ever!

Seeing the Conflict for What It Is

This short essay by Mark Rushdoony appeared last year in Chalcedon’s blog.

Prophecy that has come true has always been a problem for materialists, and they always try to refute it the same way–by claiming that the prophecy wasn’t written until after the events foretold actually occurred. They buttress this with a presupposition, on their part, that predictive prophecy is by its very nature impossible: that is, it doesn’t fit into their worldview at all. Then they demand “proof,” and whatever evidence we might provide, they reject.

This is why the whole enterprise called “education” must be reclaimed by Christ’s people…

If they only realized it.

Jesus Said, ‘It Is Not for You to Know’

I shy away from conspiracy theories, and from self-anointed prophets who come up with flashy interpretations of Biblical prophecies.

So when I read yesterday that the New World Order, NWO to fans, is fixing to nuke New York to stop tonight’s presidential debate ( http://beforeitsnews.com/alternative/2016/09/nwo-to-nuke-new-york-before-debate-3416801.html ), it sort of made my head come to a point. This prophecy, we are told, comes from “a Kenyan lady” who got it directly from God.

Just before Our Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven, after His resurrection from the dead, some of the disciples asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” As if this were all about setting up Israel with a king again: maybe they weren’t paying much attention to the Gospel.

And Jesus answered, “It is not for you to know the times or the seasons which the Father hath put in His own power” (Acts 1:7).

What part of “It is not for you to know” don’t some people understand?

So tonight will come and go without New York City being blown off the map, and tomorrow it’ll be another conspiracy, another prophecy, etc., etc.

How many times did the Lord have to say that His return would take the whole world by surprise, and that we must “watch”–“What I say unto you, I say unto all: Watch” ( Mark 13:37)–and that we are to be found at our posts, performing our duties like good servants, when He finally does return–“like a thief in the night” ( I Thessalonians 5:2).

We can’t help wondering exactly when that time will be, and trying to figure it out by studying the Bible’s many prophecies.

But I think we have to find more productive ways to “occupy until I come” ( Luke 19:13).
