Our cats used to go bananas for Nature. “Meow! There’s little tiny elephants in that box! Get ’em!” I’ve known cats who never bothered with TV; but others couldn’t get enough of it. And others who finally just outgrew it. I wonder why.

Any cat can get into a paper or a plastic bag. But how many can get out again?
Our cat Missy one night got tangled up in one of those plastic bags with the handles, and we were hard-put to catch her and take it off her.
Our cat Buster used to celebrate his accomplishments in the litter box by jumping as high as he could and bouncing himself off the wall. But why are the cats in this video doing it?
Joie de vivre, would be my guess. Unless they’re French cats. Then they don’t get credit for saying “joie de vivre.”
None of our cats ever did this–walk on just their two hind legs. But that’s nothing. A few of the cats in this video walk on just their two front legs.
All right, all right, so what? Now let’s see if they can tap-dance.
Here’s a cat with eight newborn kittens to care for. Cats are very good mothers, but eight at a time is a tall order!
You can hardly expect her to change the bedding in their box, so that’s where the human comes in. Don’t think she doesn’t appreciate it.
“Hey, are those the biggest squirrels that you’ve ever seen, or what?” “They’re big, all right. I wonder how they taste.” “You’re nuts! They’re much too big, and surely dangerous.” “They can’t get out of that box, can they?” “Nervous Nellie!”
The discussion will go on for as long as the video is playing.
If these three chicks get attached to her, this cat will have friends for life.
Our cat Henry had no interest at all in our pet mice–but the baby fence lizards, hoo-boy! Had to cat-proof their terrarium.
I wonder how he would’ve done with chicks.
Do these cats worry about the weather? Not a bit. Wind–what’s wind? Looks to me like something pretty nasty shaping up. My cat would be under the bookcase by now.
The fish in the pond aren’t worried by the weather, either; but then they’re already wet.
“Unknowable” and I have been chatting about our cats who wanted to go outside, nagged us about it, and then changed their minds when they saw that it was raining or snowing. (Note: I don’t let my cats out anymore. Much too dangerous for them.)
Our cat Henry would step out at first, in case the rain or snow was an optical illusion. As soon as he got his feet wet he would look up at me and blame me. He just had to go out, he’d give me no peace if I didn’t let him out–and then the weather was my fault.
We love them anyway.
We dispute the claim that cats are fearless. They certainly startle easily. But–!
They are perfectly capable of dominating other animals that could just swallow them whole if they weren’t too cowed to try. Cats put the whammy on bears, big dogs, and humans.
We cannot explain how they do it.
