By Request, ‘Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior’

No, I’m not missing from action today. But one of my hours sure is! Could we please not bother with Daylight Savings Time anymore?

But onto something more edifying–this gospel song, for instance: Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior, with echoes of Psalm 73.

Again I invite all of you to join in–request a hymn, and I’ll post it here. Don’t be shy. This is an evil age in a fallen world, and we need to sing louder. God will hear us.

By Request, ‘Blessed Assurance’

I’d never heard this song before, so thank you, Erlene, for suggesting it.

I don’t know why, but I imagine this song as a lullaby–the kind my Grandma would have sung me, a baby on her lap. She died when I was only 11 years old, but lately I’ve felt like she is very near to me.

Thank you, O Lord my God, for that.

By Request, ‘Revelation Song’

Revelation Song, by Phillips, Craig, and Dean–requested by Allison–sets to music some of the verses in Revelation chapters 4 and 5. It’s not listed as a hymn, but surely it could be.

As our culture is coarsened more and more, mostly by those who should be most concerned with preserving and protecting it, we may remember the heavenly throne room and the praise showered on the Lamb, who alone is worthy to receive it.

This they can’t stain. This they can’t touch. And God’s Word shall prevail against the evils of this age.

By Request, ‘Rejoice in the Lord’

Let’s start the day with Rejoice in the Lord, by Ron Hamilton, requested by Linda. This song echoes the lesson taught throughout the Bible, for instance in Hebrews 12, “For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth” (v. 6). Or as one old-time preacher put it, “You ain’t done much tribulatin’ yet.”

Not that we want to do any today!

Christian Music, ‘The Lighthouse’

Suggested by Erlene, here’s John Starnes singing The Lighthouse.

What’s the difference between “Christian music” and a hymn? I think it’s only that hymns are in a hymnal and “Christian music” isn’t.

And I wonder how many of our beloved classic hymns would make it into the hymnals, if they were written nowadays.

By Request, ‘I Asked the Lord’

I was going to save this for tomorrow, but on second thought, why not now? I Asked the Lord, by John Starnes–what a glorious singing voice God has given him.

Diane, you asked for it, and here it is.

By Request, ‘Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God’

This request by Linda slipped through the cracks, somehow, but here it is today.

This is soothing, and if you like it, there are a couple of additional hymns attached. Between the music, the message, and the snowscapes, I felt my blood pressure going down. And why not? God knows how to give good gifts to His children.

By Request, ‘All the Glory’

After all that business about politics, let me get back on course and rinse out my brain with some of that living water that Jesus had to give (see John 4, the Samaritan woman at the well: one of my favorite chapters in the Bible). So, by reader request, here’s All the Glory, performed by Caroll Roberson.

In fact, this request almost slipped through the cracks, but I like to go back over the comments in case I’ve missed one. So if you’ve got a hymn, anybody, that you’d like to see posted here, don’t be shy, please let me know–and I will get to it.

By Request, ‘There Is a Redeemer’

So we’ll start the day with There Is a Redeemer, by Keith Green: here you go, Linda.

If you’re new to this blog, or just haven’t spoken up yet, I want you to know that anybody can request a hymn–the more, the merrier.

We need to proclaim our faith. We need to encourage one another.

Sing louder!

By Request, ‘Guilty’!

Here you go, Allison–you requested this rock ’em, sock ’em Christian song, and you’ve got it: Guilty, by the Newsboys.

Are we prepared to stand up for Jesus Christ Our Lord–as Peter and John did, when the Sanhedrin ordered them to stop preaching in His name?

Maybe if a lot more of us had been willing to be judged “Guilty!” years ago, our country would not be in the shameful and ridiculous position in which she finds herself today.
