‘It Is Well with My Soul’

Horatio Spafford wrote this hymn in 1873–after losing his son, and all his wealth in the Chicago Fire, 1871, and then all four of his daughters in a disaster at sea, two years later. How any soul can bear up under so much tragedy can only be explained by the power and the grace of God.

It Is Well with My Soul, sung by Anthem Lights…

By Request, Two Hymns for One

Requested by Joshua: This video features two hymns–Immortal, Invisible and In Christ Alone, both sung by Steve Green at the Grove Avenue Baptist Church. I hope it gets your day started on the right foot.

By Request, ‘He Leadeth Me’

We have a hymn request from Lydia–He Leadeth Me, sung on a beach in Kauai by the students from Fountainview Academy. I always loved this hymns when we sang it in Sunday school.

By Request, ‘Rock of Ages’ (New Melody)

Susan asked for this one: Rock of Ages, same lyrics, but with a new melody by James Ward, who also sings it.

We’ll take more hymn requests as they come in.

‘The Son of God Goes Forth to War’

This is a spirited hymn, and a spirited rendition of it by the congregation at Cornerstone Church in Carbondale, Illinois. The Son of God Goes Forth to War–I’d never heard it until I watched “The Man Who Would Be KIng.” This hymn sounds great even when Sean Connery sings it.

By Request, ‘Rock of Ages’-Plus

This hymn request came in from Joshua late yesterday, so I saved it for this morning–Guy Penrod singing a medley of Rock of Ages and I Stand Amazed. I don’t like to use up all the hymn requests at once, in case I don’t get any the next day.

By Request, ‘All Creatures of Our God and King’ (with Prayer)

We have a hymn request today from Susan–All Creatures of Our God and King, sung by the congregation of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California.

To which I add a prayer:

O Lord our God! Bless this Easter, 2020, crippled in the flesh, with a double portion of spiritual wealth: give it extraordinary power to draw souls to Jesus Christ Our Lord and Savior: souls to be comforted, souls to be washed, souls to be saved. Let the spirit of this Easter Sunday work all year, O Lord–every day and every night, all year. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

‘Up from the Grave He Arose’

I can’t let Easter go by without posting this–Up from the Grave He Arose, by the Voice of Eden: making a joyful noise unto the Lord.

I posted this, by request, several weeks ago, and that post is already lighting up the board, this Easter morning. But in case you missed that post, here it is again.

‘Christ the Lord is Risen Today’

Happy Easter, everybody! Jesus Christ is risen! Sin is conquered, death is undone. This is the beginning of a new Creation.

Christ the Lord is Risen Today, sung by the Yoder Family. Sing so God can hear us.

‘Christ Shall Have Dominion’

When he wasn’t writing operettas with W.S. Gilbert, Arthur Sullivan wrote hymns. Christ Shall Have Dominion came out in 1871. The first time I posted it here, someone objected strenuously. I guess he wanted someone else to have dominion. God defend us.

Sung by the congregation at Grace Reformed Church in Dunnville, Ontario.
