‘How Firm a Foundation’

This was the first hymn that came into my head this morning, so that’s why it’s here–How Firm a Foundation, performed by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band. We used to sing it to the tune of O Come All Ye Faithful, in the old Dutch Reformed Church.

Oh, the sun on our Christmas tree ornaments this morning! I wish you could see it.

‘How Can I Keep From Singing?’ (J&J)

Something about the way our dear friends Joshua and Jeremy play this hymn really hits home for me (a dreadfully constructed sentence, but you know what I mean)–How Can I Keep from Singing? Really nice work, brothers!

‘Behold the Mountain of the Lord’

I felt a need for this hymn today, so here it is–Behold the Mountain of the Lord, sung by Godfrey Birtill.

Lord, if this poor, fallen world ever needed you, we need you now! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Bonus Hymn, ‘How Firm a Foundation’

Viewership’s way down, it’s raining cats and dogs–such fun, with our morning errands!–and this hymn has been on my mind all day so far, so I reckon I ought to post it, that the Lord wants me to…

How Firm a Foundation, sung by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band–the old-fashioned way.

‘Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring’

I meant to save this one for Christmas, but then Christmas came along and I forgot it–too many plates to juggle.

Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, by Johann Sebastian Bach, performed by the New London Symphony Orchestra–good for any day of the year.

‘Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring’

Nothing yet for our Christmas Carol Contest today, so I’m on my own.

Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, by Johann Sebastian Bach–not per se a Christmas hymn, but this seems usually to be the time of year for it. Performed by the New London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Leopold Stokowski.

‘The Sussex Carol’

Is this carol beautiful, or what? I love it–and nobody out there ever asks for it, I guess it’s not well-known… so I post it myself. Not trying to win my own carol contest: just sharing a gorgeous piece of old-fashioned worship music:

The Sussex Carol, by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band.

Entry No. 1: ‘Joy to the World’

*Sigh* The first video I posted wouldn’t play, and now I’m out of order–so here’s the first entry in our annual Christmas Carol Contest–Joy to the World, requested by Phoebe, written by Isaac Watts in 1719 and still going very, very strong! Sung in an open-air train by students at Fountainview Academy.

‘And Can It Be?’

Grey and dreary day: it made me oversleep, so I’m way behind on everything. Our Thanksgiving turkey turned out rather badly.

Anyway, a hymn! And Can It Be?, by Charles Wesley; sung the old-fashioned way by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band.

‘Come, Ye Thankful People, Come’

It awes me when I realize that every good thing that I have ever known has been the gift of God.

Another traditional Thanksgiving hymn–Come Ye Thankful People, Come , performed by the music group at Catshill Baptist Church.
