Cat Talk

Holy moly! Did you see the size of that owl, trying to get in through the window? No wonder the cat made a fuss about it!

Here we are treated to a sampling of cat vocalizations, some of them already infamous, like to two Siamese objecting to their human’s taking a shower. Actually, these sounds all mean something. H.P. Lovecraft wrote about talking cats as someone who would’ve given just about anything to speak their language. But we can all learn some of it.

Like, I know which sounds mean “Feed me!”

One Bag, Two Cats

People think it’s so easy to find a serviceable cat video! It’s not. We don’t want situations which some human obviously set up just so he could be on Youtube. When it comes to cat videos, humans should neither be seen nor heard. You don’t see a cat horning in on the balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet. Although that might improve it.

Anyway, here are two cats and only one can fit inside the paper bag. Sounds like the plot of a not very successful movie. Probably with Kevin Costner. Enjoy.

Furthering Your Cats’ Education

Wishing only to expand their horizons, without subjecting them to college, I ran out and bought my cats one of these fidget spinners. It held their interest, mildly, for 15 minutes: my cats have black belts in blase. Now I’m the only one who bothers with it.

I do love the solemn, pensive expression on that grey-and-white cat’s face. Grey-and-white cats are very good at doing solemn.

Cat Gymnastics

The act that the cat does on the chair, in this video, beats the dickens out of all that poncy “floor exercise” goop that they do in the Olympics. We are also treated to some exciting balancing acts, not all of which were successful, and some sanity-defying leaps, not all of which were successful. But the cat on the chair–hey, check it out.

Cats & Bunnies

We’ve not yet reached the point where the lion and the lamb lie down together–but cats and bunnies can. We can take it as a preview of what God has in store for us.

I think maybe some of the kittens in this video don’t understand that a bunny is not, in fact, another kitten.

Merry Christmas, everybody!

Cats & Christmas Trees: The Disaster Movie

We put up our Christmas tree today (to be decorated tomorrow), and it turned out to be a hard job because the trunk and the tree-stand were only marginally compatible. But we managed it in the end–and then the cats came and slept peacefully under it. They love to sleep under our Christmas tree. They have never attempted to climb one. Never. Gold stars for them.

Handy Hint for When Cats Get Bodacious with the Christmas Tree: a couple of marbles (or quarters) in a tin can, shaken at the right moment, will deter cats from getting out of hand vis-a-vis the tree. We had to do that for Buster’s first Christmas, but he learned his lesson and was a good boy from then on.

How Cats Save the Planet

Cats Save The Planet by leaving it alone and just enjoying it. Boy, do they have fun in snow! Well, so could I, if it ever got around to snowing around here. Note the cat who’s figured out sledding. Oh, to be back on my Yankee Clipper sled!

Furry and Funny

This video was billed as “Extremely funny cats and dogs.” Having examined it minutely, I concur. I don’t often get the chance to use the word, “concur.”

I would like to add that dogs are easier to figure out than cats. What do you think? I find lizards and turtles very easy to understand, and cats–almost impossible to guess what they’re thinking.

Kitty’s Got Mail

Well, at least they don’t answer the phone…

Oddly enough, I’ve never lived in a home that had a mail slot, so none of my cats ever had the opportunity to go postal over the post. I wonder if this would be a credible excuse for skipping jury duty: “The cat ate my notification.”

Our Pets Love Cardboard Boxes

Cats (big-time!), dogs, bunnies, baby goats–our pets just love those cardboard boxes. Well, all right, your pet fence lizards can live without them. But the fuzzy pets just can’t leave the boxes alone. Come to think of it, little children love getting into boxes, too–at least I did, back when. I guess it’s a mammal thing.
