‘Good Christian Men Rejoice’

Yes, I know it’s not the Christmas season. But I was sick for this last Christmas, only got out of the hospital just in time… and only to go back again a little later. Whatever. My memory of that time is not reliable.

Good Christian Men Rejoice–why? The carol tell us why–because Jesus Christ is born. Born to save us.

Oh, keep that in mind! That’s our lifeline, and we mustn’t let go.

‘Good Christian Men Rejoice’

It took me a night and two days to remember the title of this carol, but I got it, finally, while I was having my cigar: Good Christian Men Rejoice, performed by the choir and congregation at Grace Community Church.

I love the way this sounds, when played outdoors in the snow by a street band.

‘Good Christian Men Rejoice’

We’ve got no entries into our Christmas Carol Contest this morning, so I’m on my own to choose a hymn.

Good Christian Men Rejoice, performed by the Mennonite Hour Singers…

Lord , I pray this Christmas for a spirit of reconciliation: we, your servants, are in need of it.

‘Good Christian Men, Rejoice’ (Why Not?)

Oh, that lovely snow! Don’t mind me, I love snow. And summer always looks its best in the middle of the winter. And vice-versa.

I’m not doing nooze today, it’s our anniversary; but I am doing a Christmas carol in August, and I’ll post an Easter hymn before the month is out.

So here it is–Good Christian Men Rejoice, sung a capella by the Wissman Family: old, but still glorious.

By Request, ‘Good Christian Men Rejoice’

Somebody else usually requests this hymn, but this year Patty beat him to it. And after all, when your wife requests a hymn, you ought to post it.

Good Christian Men Rejoice, an old-fashioned carol , performed by the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers–and let’s have some carol contest entries, okay?

‘Good Christian Men Rejoice’ (For Patty)

I can’t very well put off my wife’s hymn request, can I? Patty asked for this one, so here it is–

Good Christian Men Rejoice, sung by the Kings College Choir at Cambridge.

(Would you believe there’s a doo-wop version of this carol? I’m sure they meant well…)

‘Good Christian Men Rejoice’

Don’t worry, I’m not entering my own contest. We got five entries yesterday and I guess I should’ve saved a couple of them for this morning. But we won’t run out of Christmas carols.

Here’s a good old-fashioned one: Good Christian Men Rejoice, by the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers.

Bonus Hymn: ‘Good Christian Men Rejoice’

Well, hardly anybody here today, only two views for that nice hymn that SlimJim requested–but maybe another hymn will do the trick.

This is a brand-new video by our own esteemed friends and colleagues, Joshua and Jeremy Swanson–an instrumental of the old-time carol, Good Christian Men Rejoice.

By the way, they’re not twins. Jeremy does seem to be growing kind of fast, though.

‘Good Christian Men Rejoice’

We don’t have any new entries yet today in our Second Annual Christmas Carol Contest, so let me offer this–Good Christian Men Rejoice, by the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers. Don’t worry, I’m not entering my own contest. Just hoping some of you who haven’t entered yet will come on board.

By Request, ‘Good Christian Men Rejoice’

Requested by TheWhiteRabbit for his birthday yesterday evening, but held over till this morning to give it a fair shake in the carol contest–Good Christian Men Rejoice, by the Kings College Choir at Cambridge.
