I don’t know anything about this praise and worship song, other than it was written by Linda Lee Johnson in 1979 and a lot of people seem to like it. Also, it echoes one of my favorite passages of Scripture, Ephesians 6:10-17–which begins:
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

There are Christians who just cringe all over at the military metaphor, never mind the New Testament resorts to it again and again.
This song reminds me of one of my favorite lines in all the Bible, spoken by David:
“Who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” (I Samuel 17:26)
It is a question we can still ask today; and you can come up with as many answers as I can.

You all out there, I know you enjoy these hymns, but you’ve also been letting Erlene and Linda to all the heavy lifting: so I’d like to hear from more of you. Let’s post your favorite hymns. As an added inducement, that’s that much less time I have available for reporting transgender news and bunk like that.

I am happy to report that I played basketball today, for the first time in I don’t know how long. I think the next oldest guy on the court was at least 25 years younger than me. Thank you, Father in heaven, for allowing me this. (And the old blood pressure wasn’t bad an hour later, either.)

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord.
No question has ever troubled more Christians than, “Am I good enough to get into Heaven?” Have I been good enough? Have I done enough good works? What if you had to do 500 good works, and you could only manage 498? And so on.
Listen to the message of both Testaments of the Bible, from Isaiah to Paul: the bill has been already paid–paid by Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world.
Just listen.
