By Request, ‘All Creatures of Our God and King’

I reckoned I’d better process Joshua’s hymn request now, so he can enjoy it–I can’t even guess what time it is for him, in Japan.

All Creatures of Our God and King, performed by Maranatha! Music–and what can we say but Amen?

I’ve tagged this hymn “Sanity Medicine” because I think we’re going to need it in that capacity today.

Our Mission Statement

Thanks to a comment made by Heidi this morning, I’ve been thinking about how to define the purpose of this blog. It was originally set up to promote my Bell Mountain books and hopefully stir up sales; but it has since grown into something more.

It’s not something I set out to do on purpose; it just sort of happened. Much of the credit goes to you, the readers. Together we have done enough to give birth to a mission statement. And here it is. Here’s what this blog is supposed to do.

Provide a place for Christian fellowship, including the posting of hymns, hymn requests, prayer requests, reblogs of posts on other Christian blogs, and Bible study. I love it when readers get to talking to each other. Nor do you have to be a Christian to be allowed in: the door is open to you, too. It’s important for us to comfort, encourage, counsel, inspire, and teach one another.

Praise the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, and the works of God the Creator, proclaim the Lordship of Christ, and assert His crown rights as the King of kings.

Outreach. This blog is a small part of the larger ministry of the Chalcedon Foundation.

Provide opposition to, and skepticism for, the pretensions of secular humanism–the climate change cult, Darwinism, transgender, and all the rest of those Really Smart Ideas that are actually abominable and stupid. The highest card in their hand is their claim to being vastly more intelligent than ordinary people–a claim that must be regularly and vigorously challenged. They deserve to be satirized, and I try to provide that. Hence Joe Collidge.

Provide good humor, pleasant memories, and fun. A good laugh is the gift of God. So is a happy memory. Hence features like “Oy, Rodney” and Memory Lane. And the comment contests, the quokkas, etc.

And yes, I’m still trying to promote my books along the way.

Anyway, that’s our mission–and we’re doing it together.

Don’t Forget, We Take Requests

See the source image

G’day! It’s Byron the Quokka, reminding you that we take requests on this blog–prayer requests (most important!), hymn requests, and requests for short excerpts from the Bell Mountain books. We had a nice flurry of those excerpt requests, but then it went away.

My Uncle Sandy, who used to have a judo school until he mislaid his black belt and couldn’t find it, says the reader requests are his favorite things on the blog, much nicer than the stinkin’ nooze. I don’t know what he’d say if the readers requested more news.

Well, I’m now in charge of making sure Lee sees all your requests–it’s something to do until he gives me another comment contest to supervise.

So Far, So Good

This morning I’ve pasted in three images and a video, which I wasn’t able to do yesterday. I got Oy, Rodney out of the way while I thought there was a chance of being able to paste an image. But, voila! I have pasted another one.

I have no idea why these things have been happening. Has the problem simply gone away, as mysteriously as it came?

Well, don’t just stand there! Let’s have a few hymn requests while the computer’s actually working. Who knows how long it’ll last?

Some Hymns and Carols–Please!

I do get tired of reporting the boiling idiocy that passes for current events these days. Had to write a Newswithviews column today, too. And our floor lamp has conked out, so it’s kind of dark in here. The new lamp won’t arrive till Friday.

So far today, nobody’s playing in our Christmas Carol Contest. C’mon, now–let’s get festive! Let’s defy this evil age and proclaim the birth of Jesus Christ.

Has the nooze got you down? Me, too. But let’s be like Paul, “[W]e are perplexed, but not in despair” (2 Corinthians 4:8). We may be weak, but our defender is strong!

If you visit this blog often, but have yet to request a hymn or Christmas carol–come on, grab a bat and march up to the plate! Do your bit!

And to those of you who have been requesting Christmas hymns: win or lose, we all thank you! Because all this glorious music is pure profit to us all.

Let’s Have Some Easter Hymn Requests!

See the source image

Easter will be here before you know it. Whatever you think about the date assigned, Christians use it to proclaim that Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead is a historical fact–a thing that really happened. The thing that changed the world.

I would love to post Easter hymns every day for the next two weeks, but I wouldn’t much enjoy being the only one selecting them.

If you’re new to this blog, or simply if you haven’t yet requested a hymn for posting here–well, come on! The invitation’s open to all. Request your hymn by name, and if I can find it on youtube, I’ll post it here. Requests can be made in the former of a “reply” to any other post.

We do this for Christmas every year. So let’s do it for Easter, too!

A Milestone for This Blog

Hum, baby! Yesterday this humble blog acquired its 500th follower. I thought that wouldn’t happen until the end of the year, but a lot of people have been showing up here lately.

If you’re new here, please click “Books” and take a look–cover art, blurbs, and sample chapters–at the nine (so far) books of my Bell Mountain series. We also take hymn requests and prayer requests, comment on the news, and in general try to serve the Kingdom of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

I wonder if I can interest my wife in a game of Mille Bornes…

Hey, How About Some Hymns?

Just because Christmas is over doesn’t mean it’s over. It has to work all year!

Attention, newcomers to this blog: I like to start each day here by posting a hymn, and I like to use hymns requested or suggested by the readers.

And there’s no rule that says we have to limit it to just one hymn per day.

So let’s hear from some of you whom we haven’t heard from before. If you’ve got a hymn that you’d like to share with the rest of this little blog community, please let me know. Just post a comment including your request, post it anywhere on this site, and I’ll do the rest.

A Reminder: We Take Hymn and Prayer Requests

Some new readers have joined this blog lately, and I’d like to take the opportunity to let them know, and remind everybody else, that we do hymn and prayer requests.

If there’s a hymn you’d like to share with your fellow readers by having it posted here, just say the word–and it shall be done. Post your request in the form of a comment, and I’ll do the rest.

Only a few of you have made hymn requests, so far. But it’s open to one and all, so don’t be shy.

We also post prayer requests. If you have one, let me know about it via a comment. It can’t hurt to have Christians from all over the world praying for you when you need a prayer.

Anybody new here? Well, in case there is, I’d like to remind the audience that this blog posts hymn and prayer requests. So if you have a favorite hymn that you’d like to share with other readers, or if you feel the need for others to be praying with you, we are here to serve.

How?

Easy as pie. Just place your request in the form of a comment after any post on this blog, and I’ll be sure to see it. We’ll take it from there.
