This spiritual comes to us via Psalm 137–By the Rivers of Babylon, by Boney M. Requested by Ina. By the rivers of Babylon we sat down and wept, when we remembered Zion… Change course, and turn to the Lord.

No hymn requests this morning, so I’m on my own. How about a good old Fanny Crosby hymn, one of the eight or nine thousand that she wrote? Brought to us by the Voctet Ensemble at St. Andrew’s Church in India.
This one’s for Erlene (you asked for it!)–How Great Thou Art, sung by Carroll Roberson, with gorgeous background sets by God the Father.
My mother used to sing this hymn as she vacuumed. So did my aunts. How it brings them back to me!
Requested by Phoebe, Woke Up This Morning With My Mind Stayed on Jesus, sung by Perfect Praise.
Sometimes I’m so focused on asking God for blessings that I forget to thank and praise Him–“Thou shalt love the LORD thy God,” the Bible reminds us… any number of times.
With your mind stayed on Jesus is not a bad place for your mind to be.
We wouldn’t last two days in the dark, without the light shed by Jesus Christ Our Lord; and I dare say we’ve never needed that light more than we need it now.
Light of the World, by Charles Wesley, sung the old-fashioned way by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band–and we’re open for a hymn request, if anybody wants to make one.
I have a doctor’s appointment this morning, which I really hate as a waste of time, have to play catch-up all day…
Meanwhile, what do you get when you take a Caribbean folk hymn and transfer it to some cold, grey islands in the Irish Sea?
You get this awesome rendition of Oh, Sinner Man–one of my favorites.
With seals, no less. (Would you believe we sang this in junior high school? Times have NOT changed for the better!)
We haven’t had this one for a while, have we? Revive Us Again–a good old-fashioned hymn, sung by Nathan (autoharp) and Lyle (guitar).
You don’t need a studio or fancy equipment to praise the Lord in song.
Requested by Erlene–Hallelujah, by the Isaacs.
It took me a moment to realize they were singing it in Hebrew, but don’t worry if you can’t speak Hebrew–the English comes a little later.
Horatio Spafford lost all his wealth in the Chicago Fire; he lost his children when their ship sank; and then he wrote It Is Well With My Soul. His faith was awesome. Terrible things can happen to us in this fallen world. Without faith, they can destroy us.
No hymn requests to start the day–not much of anything, really–so I’m on my own…
How about this one? Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross, by the Voice of Eden. It’s encouraging to know we have so many Christian brothers and sisters in India.
