When Cats Get Stuck

Well, heck, it can happening to anybody, getting your head stuck in a plastic bag. Or a tissue box. Or a sleeve of cookies. What I don’t get is the cat who gets stuck, the nice human comes along and frees him–and seconds later, he’s stuck again. They’re not all geniuses.

My poor Missy got her head stuck in a plastic bag loop once (I told her to leave it alone, but did she listen?) and turned into a furry rocket all around the apartment before I could catch her and let her loose. She never bothered with plastic bags ever again.

One Happy Puppy

When I was a little boy, the only bulldogs I knew were in cartoons–big, mean, monster-dogs that terrorized the other characters. I had no idea they were these cute little dogs with lots of personality. Just goes to show you… (Don’t you hate it when people say that, and never tell you what it goes to show you?)

This is a very short video, so I’ll try to find another for you.

{Clever Headline Wanted}

Most animals don’t get their reflections in a mirror. They’re also confused by stuffed facsimiles of animals. Even parrots get fooled. And this video also features a koala.

Some of these stuffed animals look like the real thing. It must be embarrassing for a cat or a dog to discover that this weird creature he’s been threatening is only a dummy. Imagine chatting up somebody, only to discover, after several minutes of making a spectacle of yourself, that it’s only a dummy. Mustn’t be surprised if it fools the animals.

Dogs & Cats on Ice

You’d think having four legs instead of just two would give you an advantage on a slippery surface; but the dogs and cats in this video are out to prove you wrong–and having an awful lot of fun, doing it.

Now I wonder how a centipede would make out on an ice-skating rink. I’ve never seen one try.

Cats & Dogs & Funny Smells

I suspect that one of the dogs in this video isn’t real. So he’s bound to have atypical reactions.

The cats are all real, and seem to have an aversion to human feet… and socks. One of those funny faces that they make, by the way, is how they check out the smell with a sense organ that they have and we don’t. It’s called Jacobson’s Organ, only nobody named Jacobson actually has one.

Kitty Kars

All right, what’s the secret? How do you get the cat to stay in the car?

This question has stumped mankind for thousands of years. Or would have, if they’d had cars back then. But as Ramses IV once said, “How d’ya get the freakin’ cat to stay in the chariot?”

Dogs & TV: (complete this headline to make it cool-sounding)

Dog, watching TV, sees man kick soccer ball. Follows the flight of the ball, which disappears at the edge of the screen. Dog peeks behind the screen to see if that’s where the ball went.

A lot of dogs take television very seriously. That’s probably proof that they’ve spent too much time with humans.

Cat-Bed Competition

I just love the music that goes with this video. So soothing! Almost put me to sleep before I could post it.

Those cocoon-like things are getting quite popular as cat beds. Although this one surely has room for two, the cats don’t see it that way.

They’d calm down if they could hear the music, though.

Uncooperative Critters

The one guy’s got a ferret up his sleeve (better than an ace?), the other’s got a big cat in a little fishbowl, and over there we’ve got two little dogs totally demolishing a nice, big sofa. Our pets have their own agendas.

Cats & Babies: Cuddles

It’s remarkable how gentle cats can be with human babies, isn’t it? With just a little hiccup or two–

Baby chews on pacifier ring. Baby offers it to cat, who takes his turn to chew on it. Baby puts it back into his own mouth. I can just hear my mother let out a shriek that you could hear in Timbuctoo…
