Snow Puppies

May or not May, we had snow in our weather forecast for this weekend. Of course, it never materialized: that was just to panic people. But it is awfully cold.

Anyhow, here are some puppies enjoying the snow that would’ve fallen here if the weather service knew what they were talking about.

Kittens & Baby Chicks

Resistance is futile! Kittens and baby chicks–no way you’re gonna resist that. Don’t even try.

It is said that Alfred Hitchcock, “the Master of Suspense,” never had much to do with cats and chickens. I will not attempt at this time to involve myself in that discussion.

World’s Cutest Bunnies?

Netherland dwarf bunnies–oh, my! So adorable, you could plotz.

You might find this incredible, but some scientists believe bunnies like these are distantly related to a prehistorical animal that doesn’t look bunnyish at all… the Uintatherium. That’s this fellow, here:

Uintatherium

No, no! Not the guy in the shirt. The big one with tusks and horns. They want to put it on the rabbit family tree. Go figure.

Funky Chickens

I don’t know quite how to explain this, but something about the way chickens run always delights me when I see it. And we also have roosters who usurp cats’ dinners. I don’t suppose there are many shy roosters.

I’ve heard domestic chickens can’t fly in any meaningful sense of the word. Some of you have or had had chickens. Did any of them ever fly away?

Paws That Refreshes

These dogs and cats–how sweet they are to one another! My cats have always fought. And our rats, once the lights went out for bedtime–thump-thump-thump-Squeeeeeak! And then you turn the light back on and they’re pretending nothing happened.

But here, at least, wherever here is, we have a Peaceable Kingdom. I will show this video to my two cats and hope they get the message.

A Dog & Baby Show

I think this dog is purposely trying to entertain the baby. The more the baby laughs, the more the dog does the stuff that makes him laugh. This is a meeting of the minds–don’t knock it. We’ve seen a lot of videos of babies going ga-ga for dogs and cats. Is this something God meant to be? I think so.

It Ain’t Nascar, but It’s Furry

Somehow whenever I see a hamster racing along behind the wheel of a sports car, it makes me feel there’s life in this old world yet. Even if the car is radio-controlled.

Dogs and cats consent to ride these vehicles. I wonder why they don’t just jump off. Maybe they enjoy it. I can’t imagine mice not jumping off, and I don’t know about rabbits.

Hyper Hamsters

How do hamsters do this? My mice enjoyed their exercise wheel, but never went anywhere near that fast. You’d think that after a while the hamster would realize what would happen if he pushed the wheel too hard, and he’d slow down. But you would be hopelessly wrong.

The hamster’s legs, as he does this, are only a blur. Consider: If a human being were running so fast that his legs could only be filmed as a blur… how fast would he be going?

It’s something to think about if you can’t get to sleep.

Is a Cat’s Tail a Separate Entity?

Some of the world’s most profound philosophers, I forget their names, have pondered this question for centuries: Is the tail an integral part of the cat, or is it some alien entity that somehow attached itself to the south end of a northbound cat?

My cats don’t chase their tails anymore, so my studies of this matter have been… curtailed. (Laughs hysterically.)

What do you think the preponderance of the evidence suggests?

Your Cat Will Love This Game

Look at that lovely slot car racing setup! My brother and I had one in our basement–hours and hours of fun.

But we didn’t have a cat. Cats take to slot car racing like chameleons take to bugs. (Was that a good analogy? Oh, stop trying to be literary!) You try to finish the course, the cat tries to prevent it.

This may prevent your cat from chasing and catching real cars with people in them.
