Messianic Psalms: 4 Messages

Once you’ve learned to see Jesus in the Old Testament, you can’t un-see Him.  –LD

God Is Our Refuge

A Scriptural reminder from one of our fellow Christian bloggers

For Today: Psalm 110

This is a psalm about the Messiah, Our Lord Jesus Christ. It words provide no comfort to His enemies; but to us who love Him, they are sweet.

This is Good Friday, marking His humiliation and torment and death on the Cross–for us. For you and for me.

This Psalm is about what happens afterward.

Psalm 144, ‘Blessed Be the Lord My Strength’

Blessed by the Lord my strength, King David wrote, that teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight; my goodness and my fortress, my high tower and my deliverer…

This rendition of the psalm is by the Rochester Cathedral Choir. You may want to follow along in your Bible–if, like me, you have trouble picking up lyrics as they’re sung.

For there will be conflict, and the Lord must be our strength.

Bonus Hymn, ‘Psalm 76’

For a little extra fortification for the day, here’s Psalm 76 (“In Judah is God known; his name is great in Israel”), performed by Zac Hicks and Cherry Creek Worship.

If you’d prefer a more solemn rendition, here again is Andy Kenway (sorry, no video) https://soundcloud.com/andy-kenway/psalm-76-king-alfreds-battle

By Request: Esther Mui

This is Psalm 59, sung by Esther Mui: Linda’s request.

Esther has set quite a few of the Psalms to music. Well, that’s how David did it.

Hymn, ‘God is Our Refuge’

This is Psalm 46, set to music and performed by the UMC Sanctuary Choir.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble;

Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and the mountains be carried into the depth of the sea…

Turn up the volume.

By Request, ‘God is My Defense’

Here is Esther Mui with God is My Defense, to welcome reader Linda Sorci’s newest grandson into the world. He was born last night, I believe.

May his generation be wiser and holier than ours.
