What Beliefs Will We Be Allowed to Have?

Conference organizers concealed the identities of the participants, according to The Telegraph.

While the world was looking elsewhere, a bunch of top judges and lawyers from all over the world got together in London, in a conference funded by (who else?) the U.N., to try figure out a way to make it against the law not to believe in Global Warming ( http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/11924776/QC-calls-for-ruling-to-scotch-claims-that-challenge-consensus-on-global-warming.html ).

Well, actually, what they want to do is somehow to translate the “settled science,” the “scientific consensus,” the “97% of scientists believe that Colgate is an effective decay-preventive dentifrice” ** Oops! got carried away, should be “97% of scientists believe in Global Warming so that makes it true”–all this, they wish to translate into law. “Facts” are to be made laws; and presumably it would then become a criminal offense to dispute the “facts.”

Only liberals have so little confidence in their own opinions that they always seek to have them put over by force. They can’t convince us that their “Climate Change” is anything other than a big, fat scam, so they want to shut us up.

Is this how honest men behave?

Is this how science is to proceed from now on? Whoever has the most force at his disposal, wins the debate–or, better yet, just shuts down the debate?

This trail has been blazed by the “gay marriage” pioneers. Don’t like it? Don’t want to take part in a same-sex “wedding”? Okay–we’ll ruin you financially, turn you and your whole family into public enemies, destroy your livelihood. We don’t bother to try to win the argument! We just crush the opposition.

Hey, folks–enjoy your opinions while you’re still allowed to have ’em.

The ‘Stone Age Tribe’ That Wasn’t

Dear Worldly Wisdom–Here we are in our cave, exactly where you expect to find us. Not only do we not have words for “war” or “conflict in our primitive, unspoiled Stone Age language. We also have no word for “sucker.” (signed) Your friends, The Gentle Tasaday

In 1971, Science and the nooze media went into ecstasy over the discovery, in the Philippines, of a “Stone Age” tribe that had apparently been totally isolated from the rest of humanity for over a thousand years ( http://hoaxes.org/archive/permalink/the_stone-age_tasaday ).

I remember that, I saw the documentaries: “the gentle Tasaday,” who didn’t have words in their language for war or fighting or conflict, totally unspoiled, front-page news for National Geographic and PBS–proof positive that Rousseau was right about The Noble Savage. Yep, that Fall of Man stuff is for the birds, Christians just invented it to be mean. In reality, man is basically good and pure and noble, and it’s only that stinkin’ Western civilization that corrupts him and turns him into a villain.

Ah, the settled science of those days!

And then in 1986 the Tasaday were denounced as a hoax–just a bunch of Mindanao villagers posing as a Stone Age tribe.

Well, really: from the Tasaday caves to the nearest modern village was only a couple of miles. How isolated could they have been?

Filipino politics is an intimate part of this story, so the controversy goes on to this day. It’s possible the Tasaday had been living in that sector of the jungle for a century or more, having fled their original home. But it is not possible that they’d been there for a thousand years and turned into hippies who wore leaves instead of tie-dyed T-shirts.

The Tasaday population today is reported at 200 or so. It doesn’t seem the gene pool would be large enough to carry them through a thousand years.

You know something? Whenever Science and the nooze media get together on a story, it’s just about gotta be humbug.

Yea, let God be true, but every man a liar… (Romans 3:4)

Settled Science: Radioactivity is Good for You!

http://s.hswstatic.com/gif/radiation-sickness1-622x415.jpg

According to Professor Bertram Boltwood of Yale University, radioactivity introduced into a human body is “carrying electrical energy into the depths of the body and there subjecting the juices, protoplasm, and nuclei of the cells to an immediate bombardment by explosions of electrical atoms,” and that it stimulates “cell activity, arousing all secretory and excretory organs… causing the system to throw off waste products” and is, among other things, “an agent for the destruction of bacteria” ( http://www.cultofweird.com/medical/eben-byers-radithor-poisoning/ ).

Indeed,  Prof. Boltwood’s scientific colleagues believe the consumption of radium has positive health benefits; so in 1912 (your first hint!) they invented a device called a “Revigator”–a jar made of radium-containing ore. The instructions included, “Fill jar every night. Drink freely… when thirsty and upon arising and retiring, average six or more glasses daily.” (same source)

Such was the Settled Science of the Nineteen-teens and twenties. If you want to be healthy, consume radioactive materials. The science is settled, the debate is over–radium is good for you! Anyone who says it isn’t ought to be punished for the crime of Radium Benefit Denial–trying to withhold this great boon from a beleaguered human race just waiting to be raised up to greatness by radium added to their salves, beauty creams, toothpaste, ear plugs, soap, butter, chocolate candy bars, suppositories (ugh!) and contraceptives.

This particular Settled Science kind of came unsettled in the 1930s, when people who had been using radium in the 1920s began to die from various forms of radiation poisoning. They weren’t nice deaths, either.

It’s not that Big Science always gets it wrong. It’s just that when they do get it wrong, it can kill you. Or destroy your agriculture. Or take away your liberty.

Just last week, we were advised that “science” tells us the Bible is all dead wrong about morality and we’ve got to celebrate “gay marriage.” ‘Cause Science says so.

These days it’s  hard to pick the science out of the crowd of pseudo-science all around it.

When all is said and done, science is the work of the human mind, and human hands. God’s word is eternal; man’s word is not. God’s truth is true forever; man’s truth has a limited shelf life.

The “truth” that radioactivity is good for you didn’t last too long.

Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of? (Isaiah 2:22)
