Let’s get the bad taste of the news out of our mouths, shall we, and fix our minds on something true and good.
Suggested by Erlene, here is Carroll Roberson with Lord Take All That I Have… “for you gave it to me.”
That is true, and that is good.

And let’s get the day rolling with Chris Tomlin praising God’s sovereign lordship over all of His creation–Sovereign, by Chris Tomlin.
Win or lose in this election, here is the message which we must proclaim:
We have a greater King than Caesar!
And someday they will know it.
Before I get into dirty politics today–if I get into it!–first let’s fortify our souls with praise of God who made us and sustains us and redeems us: For Your Name is Holy, performed a capella, in wonderful harmony, by 3b4jHoy.
All I can find out about them is that their names are Heather, Dominique, and Claudette and that they hail from Florida. There is very much of the Hebrew Bible in their work. There is also very much of the Torah in the words of Jesus Christ and the Apostle Paul. For those Christians who are a little fuzzy on this, it takes both Old and New Testaments to make the Christian Bible.
These girls know that!
This is the rousing gospel song that’s been on my mind these past two days–and who better to sing it than Mahalia Jackson? Here she is in 1957 on the Nat King Cole Show.
You may want to turn up the volume for this. Yeah, I know, I say that almost all the time. Well, I’m not going to post stuff for which I recommend we turn down the volume, am I? Anyway, here’s one of our national treasures singing a hymn to wake us wide-awake!
Blessed by the Lord my strength, King David wrote, that teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight; my goodness and my fortress, my high tower and my deliverer…
This rendition of the psalm is by the Rochester Cathedral Choir. You may want to follow along in your Bible–if, like me, you have trouble picking up lyrics as they’re sung.
For there will be conflict, and the Lord must be our strength.
We Shall Behold Him, sung here by Sandi Patty, takes us to when “We shall all be changed in a moment” (I Corinthians 15:52): requested by Erlene.
Remember, the hymn shop is always open and anyone can request a hymn to be posted here. Share your favorities with us all.
This is a serious worship song–Via Dolorosa, by Sandi Patty–and not to be taken lightly. Our God paid a heavy price for our redemption.
Thank you, Erlene, for requesting it.
Here’s a worship song requested today by Susan–He Will Hold Me Fast, performed by the Norton Hall Band at Southern Seminary.
Y’know something? I think I’ll start this weekend with two hymns instead of one. Be right back…
Thank you, Erlene, for suggesting this worship song, Jesus Paid It All. I hope you like this version I’ve selected, by The Newsboys.
A reminder: Hey, everybody, if you’re tired of me repeating myself in the selection of hymns to start the day, suggest or request one yourself. Leave a comment to that effect anywhere on this blog.
Susan, I can’t be sure this is exactly the hymn/worship song you wanted–but at any rate it’s pretty good! Austin Stone sings How Deep the Father’s Love For Us, and it stirs up his audience with love for God the Father, Christ the Son. “His wounds have paid my ransom.” Amen.
It’s a good thing to see people stirred up for God. There ought to be a bit more of it.
