Back from the Doctor’s

Well, they didn’t try to keep me there today, nor did they attempt to thrust tubes into any tiny openings. They took some pictures of my innards but didn’t tell me what they meant. “Protocol,” dontcha know.

On the whole, the doctor agreed with me about my two most obvious problems: 1. Broken hip really hurts–a lot–and wakes me up at night. Repeatedly. And 2. Even a slight urge to pee sends me to the bathroom four or give times a night. Either one of them, by itself, I think I could handle. But both at the same time–no dice.

The doctor concurred, so the next goal is to get my hip fixed.

Lurking under the kelp bed is the possibility that the cancer will come back. I would prefer not to think about that. I want the damn hip fixed! Then maybe take up mountaineering.

That’s all, folks, for today. I’ll keep you posted.

‘Thy Word Is a Lamp Unto My Feet’

I love the way Amy Grant sings this worship song–Thy Word Is a Lamp Unto My Feet. And I love the photos that go with it here: God’s creation. Excuse me for a moment, it brings on tears.

I have another doctor’s appointment today, so I don’t know how much work I’ll be able to do today.

Doctoring Again (No End in Sight)

1,342 Crazy Doctor Stock Photos, High-Res Pictures, and ...

Not to be unjust, but I have yet another doctor’s appointment tomorrow and I’m beginning to feel gun-shy. I’ve been doctoring all year, and it’s getting me down. Besides, I couldn’t resist the picture displayed above.

True, I did have a bout of bronchitis in third grade that kept me out of school for a month. But only the first half of that was really bad. I wound up resting in bed, tinkering with my erector set and reading Robin Hood.

I don’t know what they mean to do to me tomorrow. I’m getting doctored out.

If I’m home on time I’ll bring you up to speed.

If they let me go home.

A Writer’s Nightmare

Man Sinking In Quicksand In Movie Scene by Bettmann

“Eeyaaagh….!”

Just to give you a little glimpse into what I’m up against, these days–

Last night I dreamed I was desperately trying to get back to work on my novels. First I couldn’t find the manuscript. When I did, all the pages were out of order and had to be sorted. And then I finally found the title page:

THE MORASS

By Lee Duigon

Holy cow! What is this? I never wrote anything about a morass. The only morass I know is the one I’m stuck in. I can’t remember the story line. I don’t know where the rest of the novel is.

I am glad it was only a dream.

The working title of this novel is Ozias, Prince Enthroned; and I have it all scrawled down in longhand.

It’ll be ready when I am.

Hip Replacement… When?

Hip Pain: Causes and Treatment Options: NY Neurology ...

So far, it looks like I’ll have to wait till mid-August for my hip replacement… if that’s when I can actually have it done. Meanwhile, everything hurts.

Yeahbut, yeahbut! What about the colon cancer?

Oh, fap! You’re asking me? I feel like I’m a ghost haunting this apartment. Sleep? What’s that? Where do you get it? And what kind of shape will I be in by the time they get around to my hip?

I would appreciate your prayers.

I haven’t had a decent night’s sleep all year… and I’m beginning to think I know why.

Two problems: back and forth to the bathroom all night, to pee; and the hip deteriorating and it hurts all the time.

If it was only the urge to urinate, I could handle it. If it was only the hip, I might be able to handle that. But both of them at the same time–no, it can’t be done.

We are now looking for a doctor to do the hip. We’ve already done the bladder, supposedly successfully. I pray it doesn’t take too long to find one. This hip is giving me fits.

The Die Is Cast

1,100+ Fourth Of July Fireworks Nyc Stock Photos, Pictures ...

What a storm we had last night! For 47 years I’ve been slamming our back door shut against the wind and rain. Last night, for the only time in history, it went perfectly into the door frame and then wouldn’t come out. Happily, our neighbor Josh took care of it this morning.

Meanwhile, we have decided to get me a hip replacement before we do anything else. My wife and my sister (nursing student, Advanced Practice Nurse) have the credentials and I’d be a fool not to take their advice. I’m not looking forward to any more time in the hospital–but again, I trust Patty and Alice to steer me right.

At least the murderous heat got washed away last night. A nice day for reading a book and smoking a cigar.

One Down, One to Go

Thumbs down.

Dr. No. 1: Way, hey, looks like the cancer’s comin’ back already! There’s all sorts of treatments we can try, though. Saddle up the ambulance!

Dr. No. 2: We’ll be seeing him this afternoon. I have no idea what he’s going to say.

Somewhere off in the distance, but looming ever closer: unorthodox medical procedures, the kind regular doctors don’t approve of.

I do not want to outlive my wife. I don’t want to outlive my country. But it seems to me that my wants are irrelevant.

I would like to finish my books… but it looks like even money that I won’t.

Raisin’ the Roof

Roof flies off building due to storm in Downtown Anderson

Got yet another doctor appointment today, calloo, callay. I wish I could trust them. But I can’t, anymore.

AND we’ve got the roofing crew overhead today–wham, bam, scrape, thump–BOOM! This is not restful. I’m sitting on the pot when the building starts to make like a bowl of jello. Then it stops.

What to do? The roof HAS to be repaired, and no sense putting it off.

I can’t imagine how they’ll clean up the site once they’re done up there.

Update: We had to bump the doctor appointment… so tomorrow I’ll have two of them.

Back to Doctorin’!?!

Axolotl salamander swimming in an underwater environment ...

How I envy that axolotl! It looks so peaceful down there.

I have yet another doctor’s office visit tomorrow, and I’ve lost track of  who’s doin’ what. I would think the job at hand is to replace my broken hip, but what do I know? All it does is hurt all the time.

Much of my  trust in medical personnel has been erased.

Please pray for me.
