Video Treat: Cats in Hiding

Cats get into the darnedest places, don’t they?

When they were kittens, Robbie and Peep sort of disappeared and I just couldn’t find them anywhere…. until I looked under the bed. Nothing at first. And then the two little heads, upside-down, popped out from inside the box springs. Eeyah!

Video Treat: Cats Loving Babies

It’s hard to remember being a baby. I can’t do it. But I think I could, if I’d had a cat to cuddle me. I’ll bet that does wonders for the baby’s development.

Just be sure the cat understands she or he is to be gentle with the baby, before you leave the two of them alone together.

A lot of the babies in this video are laughing merrily as they play with the cat. I would love the see what the bond between the baby and the cat is like, five or six years down the road.

Is Your Cat a Moth Whisperer?

Everybody’s cat chases moths. But does your cat talk to the moths?

Our old cat, Henry, used to give moths a big piece of his mind, especially when they parked on the ceiling, way out of reach. “Come down here, you coward! I triple-dog dare you to come down!” Very strong language for a cat; I know he didn’t learn it from his mother.

Video Treat: Kitty Can’t Stay Awake

Watch this poor kitten try to stay away–can’t quite manage it. This reminds me of some lectures I’ve attended.

Happy Fourth of July, everybody.

Video Treat: Flying Cats

Check out the moves on these cats. Don’t you wish you could be as athletic as that? Imagine what you could do on a basketball court. “Folks, he’s 67 years old, but he’s got the moves of a cat. I mean–wow, did you see that? He ducked the ball from half-court! I don’t believe my eyes!” [Has to be carted off, raving]

Video Treat: Lights Out!

Now for a little fun before I relax with Freddy Goes Camping and probably fall asleep. Watch what happens as this cat tries and tries to catch the moth!

Cats love to chase moths. My old cat Henry, though, also liked to scold the moths. Sometimes a moth would just rest on the ceiling, way out of reach, and then Henry would give the insect a piece of his mind. Really, what that moth was doing wasn’t fair!

Another Cat, Another Scary Movie

I guess cats really shouldn’t watch horror movies–although I must say my cat, Buster, sat on my lap purring the whole time we watched The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Maybe he just didn’t think the Creature was all that scary.

Cat Watches ‘Psycho’

Sorry, but I really couldn’t resist this!

Who says cats can’t understand what they see on television? Here is a cat watching Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho–that climactic scene in which harmless old Mrs. Bates, sitting in the cellar in her rocking chair, is discovered to be a… ugh! a mummy!

Thanks to Tami for emailing me this priceless cat video.

Why Is This Cat Happy?

With a truly impressive display of what President Kennedy used to call “vigah,” this cat leaps to the top of a folding door, inches away from the ceiling. And once he’s up there, he’s purrin’ and rubbin’ and happy as can be.

Not that anyone has ever figured cats out–but what’s so great about the top of that door? My cats get happy when I share my langostinos with them, but I doubt that any door could ever turn them on like this.

Explain it if you can!

Sanity Break: Sleepy Kittens

There have been times in my life when I’ve wondered whether kittens actually do sleep, ever. This video proves they do. At least a little.

Look, it’s been a hard week, and this video is intended to soothe us all. I mean, if this doesn’t relax you, I don’t know what will. I am wide, wide awake because I stillll have… got to….[clunk]… zzzzzzz….
