Freedom of the Press Takes a Hit in Canada

He forgot to say “May I?”!

Canada’s leading conservative journalist, Ezra Levant, is suing Justin Trudeau’s, er, “government” for denying a “journalist license” to his news outlet, Rebel News (https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/rebel-news-has-sued-trudeau-for-denying-the-prominent-official-journalism-designation/)–which means Rebel News reporters will be denied access to government press conferences and similar events.

Rebel News will also suffer penalties under Canada’s “Income Tax Act.”

According to the government, “less than 1 percent” of Rebel News content “meets the criterion for original news content” and is “largely focused on the promotion of one particular viewpoint.”

Honk if you know of any nooze outlet to which that description won’t apply [cue in crickets chirping in silent background].

“Journalism license,” eh? Does that mean “support the government or just shut up”?

The free world ain’t so free anymore, is it?

Allowing the government to decide who’s a “journalist” and who isn’t–well, that slurping sound you hear offstage is U.S. Democrats licking their lips with envy.

In 2016 the Untied Nations banned certain reporters from a climbit chains conference because–they came right out and said it–those reporters were “not helpful” to the globalist agenda.

How the dickens are we supposed to know what’s going on when government controls the press? All the sacrifices the Western world has made, to establish a free press–and now the, um, “journalists” don’t want one anymore. So much easier just to write what the government tells you to write!

Stalinism–it only went away for a little while.

I guess they don’t trust Canadian journalism to commit suicide, as American journalism is doing: so the global statists at the UN have banned three reporters from Ezra Levant’s Rebel Media from covering its Global Warming conference in Morocco next month ( http://www.climatedepot.com/2016/10/21/caught-on-tape-un-bans-skeptical-journalists-from-climate-summit-for-holding-views-not-particulary-helpful/ ).

According to the UN bigwig in charge of press credentials, these journalists were banned because they’re “not helpful.” And also for “pushing a particular point of view.” Gee, they must be the only journalists in the world who do that!

Do honest people ban reporters from covering their conference?

Now, if these reporters had been pushing Global Warming and global government, they would be welcomed with open arms. It’s only “a particular point of view” that the UN wants suppressed. “Advocacy journalism” is only bad if you’re advocating the wrong thing.

By the time the ruling class is done corrupting journalism–with the enthusiastic assistance of noozies who think Job One, or indeed their only job, is helping the Democrat Party–it’ll be like there’s no such thing as news: we’ll have no idea what’s going on. Someone will have to re-invent reporting; and then we’ll have to fight the battles for freedom of the press all over again. In the meantime we’ll have no reliable information: only “advocacy journalism” approved by our rulers.

I used to be a reporter. We used to try to get the story right, insofar as humanly possible. We thought it was our duty.

You Can’t Kill the Rapist?

Why is this man smiling? Busted another law-abiding citizen who dared defend himself, have you, Bill? All in a day’s work for any liberal.

Front-page news in New York City today: a man has been charged with manslaughter for killing an intruder who tried to rape his wife ( https://www.veooz.com/news/GK~v17C.html ).

The attacker broke into the couple’s apartment and attacked the wife, punching her, tearing at her clothes. Her screams brought her husband running to the rescue, prudently grasping a tire iron. This he used to beat the intruder to death.

So now he’s the criminal? This is too much, even for Bill de Blasio’s New York. The bad guy broke in his door and attacked the wife, and the husband who defended her is a criminal?

But then liberal rulers always favor criminals over law-abiding people. Always.

I doubt this man has much to fear from any jury, unless they can somehow collect a jury full of rapists. But as Ezra Levant says, the process is the punishment. By the time this ordeal is over, the husband will have been put through hell.

P.S.–And what is journalism coming to? Dig this quote from one of the news articles on the Internet: “after he beat a man who tried to rape his wife to death with a tire iron.” Another fine product of university journalism courses.
