‘The Persistence of Leftism’ (2017)

Painting a couple of melted clocks seems like a lot of trouble to go to, for very little gain, but it made Salvador Dali famous.

Even more persistent than Dali’s memory is the evil in the human heart that leads us to leftism.

The Persistence of Leftism

“The human heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked. Who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)

It’s important to defeat the Left wherever and whenever it reaches out for power; but remember that unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it (Psalm 127:1).

Today’s Worst Idea

Betcha never knew you had a monster hiding out up there!

Who’s writing these headlines? Like this one: “Brain chip created for US soldiers to take out enemies with their minds.” ( https://endtimeheadlines.org/2019/09/brain-chip-created-for-us-soldiers-to-take-out-enemies-with-their-minds/)  What exactly does that mean?

Well, according to the article I read, they’ve developed a “brain-computer interface strip” that will enable soldiers “to control equipment with their thoughts.”

Uh… Are we sure we want to do that? What if the soldier develops some, er, unusual ideas about what that main battle tank should do? Didn’t any of these people ever see Forbidden Planet? Don’t they know what happens if the id is allowed to impact directly on the physical world?

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9).

There are an awful lot of not-so-nice things floating around in the hearts and subconscious minds of fallen human beings. Let’s not couple it with power.

‘Depraved’ Starts Here

Lizzie Borden 1890.jpg

Lizzie Borden in 1890

In 1893 Lizzie Borden, spinster, of Fall River, Massachusetts, was tried for the ax murders of her father and stepmother. The little ditty survives to this day: Lizzie Borden took an ax, gave her father forty wacks/ When she saw what she had done, she gave her mother forty-one.

For the record, Ms. Borden was acquitted of the crimes. No one else was ever charged with the murders. By the time she died in 1927, her legend was firmly established.

Now, the house where the murders were committed is the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast and Museum. I am not going to link to their site because I felt rather soiled by contact with the whole idea. If you were wondering where bad taste ends and sheer depravity begins… it’s here.

You can sleep in the Murder Room, buy postcards showing genuine crime scene photos of the butchered victims, and even buy a Lizzie Borden bobble-head doll complete with cute little ax. Why anyone would want any of this is well beyond me. But this is a successful business, so it must have customers.

Uh, hello–anybody there? Two people were hacked to death in here. The last moments of their lives must have been unimaginably horrible. And if Lizzie, as the court found, didn’t kill them, imagine living the rest of your life with virtually everyone in America believing you did such a thing. And singing a song about it!

The human heart, wrote Jeremiah, is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jer. 17:9)

This is why we need a Savior. Good thing we’ve got one.

Christ’s Reign Is A Certainty

Some of us, myself included, are dismayed by the moral and spiritual disease afflicting our country and the world. But we mustn’t give in to despair, and we mustn’t be surprised. Wars, crime, tyrants, heresies, and outright folly–these are the products of the human heart, which Jeremiah described as desperately wicked (Jer. 17:9). We, the human race, are sinners; and sinners sin.

Surveying the news, we can hardly help believing we have entered the End Times, the last days. But there have been worse times than these. World War II was one of them. We are preyed upon by wicked and ungodly persons; but the villains we confront are pretty small potatoes compared to the Hermann Goering Division, or the Imperial Japanese Navy. And didn’t we just defeat the villains in a national election? I mean, we’re talking about people who go running for the Play-Doh because their party lost. We ought to be ashamed to be afraid of them.

Our world is the way it is because of our free will, abused on a massive scale.

Where I live, it’s been terribly cold all weekend, with high winds–most unpleasant. But when I went outside this morning, I saw green shoots coming up all over.

These tell us, in a soft and sometimes nearly inaudible voice, that God is nigh. With infinite patience, knowing that to break our free will would be to damage us beyond repair, God is working all the time to restore and renovate His whole Creation, which He will place under the absolute kingship of Jesus Christ, His Son. We know that this end is a certainly because the Lord has said so.

God’s chess game, and the moves He makes in it, are too deep for any human being to fathom. Most of them, we don’t even see. Nevertheless, He moves. And we must have faith in the eventual and inevitable outcome of the game. It will end in evil being checkmated and cast out of God’s Creation forever: for the Lord has said so.

It’s our job to keep listening for God’s voice, to do our work conscientiously, as good servants who don’t know when their Lord will come home, but who do know that He will come home, and who will want Him to find them at their posts when He does.

For the Lord will do as He has said. He will!
