Back to the Emergency Room!

I woke up in the middle of the night, last night, to find my catheter had sprung a leak and drenched my bed. That called for another trip to the hospital, circa 4 a.m. So I was in the freakin’ ambulance again.

Can’t seem to stay away, can I?

Well, they couldn’t find a leak. They reckoned I must’ve made an error with the valve… or something.  I empty the damned thing every night just before I go to bed. They changed it anyway. My new catheter has a tube a foot shorter than the other one’s! *Sigh*

Oh, but let me tell you about the miracle. My wife couldn’t see or feel any puddles or even damp spots on the bed. I believe I was the victim of a very realistic bad dream. I couldn’t find anything wrong with the bed, either.

I’m Still Sick

Some readers have wondered why I crank out four blog posts in the morning and then bag it till the next day.

Well, that’s an easy one. By noon I’m out of gas. Finished. Being this sick is hard work, it uses up your energy fast. I can’t write a Newswithviews column, can’t return to work on my current novel. Blog posts I can do because they’re short.

So let me go ahead and finish up this Saturday morning so I can rest in the afternoon. I think Byron the Quokka might have some TV listings for us.

My Day Is Starting Late

Wake up in the morning–and first thing, medical procedures: difficult, time-consuming, I hope they’re doing some good.

Immediately after breakfast, the visiting nurse dropped in for almost an hour.

And suddenly it’s 11:00.

(Work harder, Lee. Work harder!)

And Patty’s just about running on empty after the past two months; so please, everybody, pray for her. We both need your prayers.

Back from the Doctor’s

I felt kind of like a frog trying to jump out of a deep bucket. But at least the doctor was happy: rectal cancer gone, kaput, sayonara, finished.

He’d still like to operate on the colon cancer–say six weeks from now. I have never had abdominal surgery. I wonder how long I’ll be stuck in the hospital.

Anyhow, it’s supposed to be good news, my wife thinks so, my sister thinks so, and any opinion I might have would be based on ignorance and fear. That works for foreign policy, but isn’t so great for everyday life.

Tomorrow (Oh, Boy)

While this bearded dragon tries to sort out his relationship with his reflection, I have to get ready for a lengthy doctor’s appointment tomorrow. I’ve lost track of the reason for it… subject, as I am, to the fear they’ll put me back in the hospital. Or maybe just do something really painful.

Anyway, I won’t have time to do much blogging tomorrow; so I’m asking you, the readers, what you’d most like to see.

*Resume the epic romance, Oy, Rodney.

*What Child Is This?

*Gloria (Michael W. Smith)

*Son of God (Michael W. Smith)

*Any old nooze item

I won’t have time to do them all, so I’ll be watching the vote closely.

Can We Please Rest Today?

I couldn’t tell you how many lizards have fallen asleep in my hands, or on my lap; but I can tell you that I wish that I was one of them. I had a very bad night, last night.

Tomorrow it’s another doctor visit, which I’ve come to dread. What’ll it be this time? At least when you’re already in the blinkin’ hospital, they can’t threaten to pack you off to it. But man, oh, man! The whole month of November, plus half of December–no, precious, we don’t want to go back!

So today we mean to rest, Patty and me. Hurry up and rest! We need it, and after all, isn’t that what Sunday is for?

Comeback Trail

Well, I’ve fallen twice, so far. I’m not injured, but I hope there isn’t any more of it.
But I did finally get that cigar that I was pining for, Patty is feeding me like a king, and it was so good to sit for an hour in the sun. Our neighbor Josh–this man is a godsend to us–helped me out of the chair and back indoors. It must have done me some good: I have way fewer typos than I had this morning.

I’m having trouble with “chemo brain,” though. I can’t seem to post any images–I’m sure I’ve forgotten an important step that i’ve done thousands of times. *Sigh*

I’ll have a “Joe Collidge” for you tomorrow, God willing.

I Have Returned

I think I’m back. They let me out of the hospital today. Six weeks. I am told it takes a while for “chemo-brain” to wear off. Well, it could’ve killed me. It messed up my memory pretty good.
It could’ve killed me, though.
Upon my return home, my first order of business was to fall off the front step. This greatly alarmed my wife. I’m all right, the fall did me no harm.

Hmm… It won’t let me paste an image.
How did my legs get so weak? I am enfeebled! I’m also finding it hard to remember how to do this.

I have greatly missed you all, everybody. I pray I can stay out of the hospital. The instructions for doing so seem (to me) challenging and complicated. Just what I need. Hot dog.
Please bear with me as my patchy memory screws up my blog. Looks like this’ll be harder than I thought.

P.S.: It seems this machine does not want me to post images. *Sigh*

Staying Alive

G’day, boys ‘n’ gulls! Byron the Quokka here, letting you know this blog remains in operation even with the blogger needing some help to fog a mirror.

Don’t worry! We’re going to plant the old crock outside with a cigar and hope and pray for the best. No chemotherapy this week (he should feel better already),

Meanwhile, it’s my job to see that your comments get published  Don’t be afraid to make jokes! We could use some.

Trying to Rest Today

Yes, I’m running late and I’m sorry for that. I’ve found some truly gnarly nooze stories I want to share with you, but they may have to wait for Monday. Just now I want my cigar and my chair in the sunshine and then go back indoors to watch a movie.

A couple of these stories are simply too preposterous to be lies. So stay tuned!
