Sanity: ‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel’

This is the first hymn that’s popped into my head this morning, and it was just the right one: O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, sung by “a traditional choir” (sorry, that’s all I know). Our help is in the name of the LORD, which made heaven and earth (Psalm 124:8)…

‘O Come, O Come Emmanuel’

Joshua Aaron sings O Come, O Come Emmanuel at the City of David in Jerusalem. Traditional plus modern instruments give the ancient carol a unique sound.

(No carol contest entries this morning.)

‘O Come, Emmanuel’

Once upon a time, on a 15-minute panel show on our lovely Christian radio station that isn’t here anymore, I heard a woman give advice that I hope I never forget:

When things go bad, she said… “Sing louder.”

Okay! I’ve got Simon Khorolsky, he sings so you can hear it: O Come, O Come, Emmanuel. With snow and trees.

By Request, ‘O Come, O Come Emmanuel’

Requested by SlimJim, sung by “a traditional choir”–O Come, O Come Emmanuel. And as St. Matthew tells us, “Emmanuel” means “God with us” (Matthew 1: 23).

The carol contest is open all day, everybody. Don’t miss out!

By Request, ‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel’

I learned this hymn in a public school, back when hymns were still allowed.

Requested by Phoebe–O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, a 12th century hymn, sung by the Yoder Family (couldn’t re-unite our Grade 7 chorus).

Should I post any more carols today, or hold them back for tomorrow?

By Request, ‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel’

Requested bySlimJim, and beautifully performed by a “traditional choir” somewhere–O Come, O Come, Emmanuel. And “Emmanuel,” says the Bible, means “God with us.”

We sang this for our seventh-grade Christmas concert–no longer allowed, of course.

God deliver us.

By Request, ‘O Come, O Come Emmanuel’

This request comes from my chess buddy, “Optimal Play,” in Australia–O Come, O Come Emmanuel. Y’know–we sang this hymn in seventh grade, before the Supreme Court (spit) decided America’s children needed to be protected from Jesus Christ.

O Lord our God! Bless this Christmas season, and give it extraordinary power to draw hearts and souls to Jesus Christ, our Savior and our King! If we ever needed Christmas, we need it now. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

By Request, ‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel’

Christians have been loving this hymn for some 800 years.

Requested by Valerie, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel–the name means “God with us.”

Praise Without Words (‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel’)

The Holy Spirit can speak to us without words. We can do that, too: for God has given us music.

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel by the Piano Guys, piano and cello and no words. I’d like to know the setting, but won’t insist on it.

By Request, ‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel’

Requested by Erlene: O Come, O Come, Emmanuel is a Latin hymn from way back in the 12th century.

If you’re wondering what good it does to post hymns, think about this comment I found on the Youtube page: “I’m an atheist. After listening to this I realize how it feels like to believe in him.”

Give God the glory for that.
