‘Once in Royal David’s City’

One of our friends out there usually requests this carol, but so far this year he hasn’t, so I thought I ought to go ahead and provide it myself.

The carol contest is not over, everyone! We’ll keep it going till New Year’s. So if you haven’t entered a Christmas hymn request yet, now’s the time to do it!

Meanwhile we have Once in Royal David’s City, sung by Daniel O’Donnell.

By Request, ‘Once in Royal David’s City’

I was sure Thewhiterabbit would eventually ask for this one–Once in Royal David’s City–and here it is, today’s first entry in our annual Christmas Carol Contest. Sung by the chapel choir at Kings College, Cambridge.

I don’t know why, but the carol contest doesn’t seem to be quite catching on this season. Two entries remain tied for the lead with 19 views. Maybe it’s just me saying so, but I think we need Christmas this year like we haven’t needed it in a long time.

Even if you don’t request a carol, you can help the contest along just be viewing the ones that have been posted so far. What could be easier than that?

Special Request, ‘Once in Royal David’s City’

We announced a Christmas Carol Contest yesterday, to begin the day after Thanksgiving; but Marge was quick off the mark with a request for this, Once in Royal David’s City. And there’s no such thing as a bad time for a Christmas hymn!

This rendition by the choir and congregation at King’s College Chapel, Cambridge, moves me close to tears. Nothing can be that beautiful, and not be true. And the most beautiful truth of all is Jesus Christ, Our Lord.

‘Once in Royal David’s City’

No one has asked for this yet, but here it is–Once in Royal David’s City, by the Kings College Choir at Cambridge. Ahhhh….!

‘Once in Royal David’s City’ (Libera)

This is a brand-new video by the Libera Boys’ Choir, singing Once in Royal David’s City. How they get children to sing like this, it’s a marvel.

The Christmas Carol Contest is over until we do it again next year, but the Christmas season isn’t, and we’re still taking Christmas hymn requests. Especially if you can come up with one we haven’t used yet!

By Request, ‘Once in Royal David’s City’

Isn’t this funny? I was just thinking of this hymn; then I turned on my computer and found “Janowrite” had just requested it–Once in Royal David’s City, sung by the King’s College Choir at Cambridge University Chapel, England.

Wow, look at all the candles! There’s something to be said for High Church.
