Cat, You’ve Got Mail

Boy, do cats love getting mail! I had no idea.

Sure, I was excited when I was eight years old and I was expecting by Authentic Genuine Davy Crockett Log Cabin in the mail any day now (and what a nothing it turned out to be when I finally got it)–but I couldn’t hold a candle to the cats in this video. Then again, if I’d acted like them, I think my mother might’ve been concerned…

Playful Fox, Jealous Dog

Gee, that headline makes it sound like a kung-fu movie. Actually, it’s a fox playing in someone’s hard with a dog’s toy–while the poor dog, stuck indoors, has to watch. Do you get the impression that the fox knows the dog is there, and is rubbing it in?

Foxes are wild animals that adapt rather well to not-so-wild environments. I once saw a fox trotting up the sidewalk in my neighborhood. As soon as he saw me, he made himself scarce.

Bring It On! Cat vs. Mailman

Mail carriers expect to have trouble with dogs; but here’s a cat who resents the intrusion. And if the guy’s not careful, he’s going to get something very nasty.

Our cats don’t like it when someone enters the vestibule of our apartment. Usually they run to the door and growl, and sometimes they run upstairs and hide. Now I wonder what they’d do if we had a mail slot.

Territoriality: don’t sell it short.

Cats & Dogs & Chaos

This is supposed to be a blog post. Somehow it got up on top of the home page and I have no idea how to get rid of it.

Dogs and cats have much more fun chasing each other than I have, trying to figure out how to work this thrice-bedamned computer.

When Your Cat Really Digs You

Want to feel special? Your cat can give you that feeling.

My cat, Buster, who looked very like the cat in this video, used to jump up on the table, grab my forearm, and nestle his head against my hand, all the while purring like mad.

It’s good to be loved!

Naughty Cats and Christmas Trees

Video evidence to the contrary, I refuse to believe that you can’t have both cats and a Christmas tree. None of my cats have ever attempted to climb our Christmas tree; and with the exception of my mother’s little wooden soldiers, our cats don’t try to eat the ornaments.

I don’t know, maybe there’s something about those artificial trees… Our cats dearly love to sleep under the Christmas tree. I’ll bet the aroma relaxes them.

P.S.–Not that it matters, but I do wonder what it takes to get a bunch of “likes” on one’s blog. Suggestions, anyone?

Do Dogs Think?

I’ll bet if you studied videos like this long enough and closely enough, you’d discover some fascinating things about the minds of dogs and cats.

This video makes it fairly obvious that dogs do think–but not like we do. We really have no idea what’s going on up there. But it would be really cool to know.

Not the Right Way to Clean Cats

It’s hard to think of anything that would appeal to a cat more than a washing machine. These two kittens, when they get older and more experienced, and have seen more of the world, will someday realize that now, inside the washing machine, they will be able to do that cool thing they’ve seen mice and hamsters doing on an exercise wheel.

And your clothes will come out full of cat hair.

More Sleepy Kittens

Admittedly this isn’t the most exciting video you’ll ever see, but it does teach an important lesson. Important to whom, don’t ask. And the lesson is: cats can sleep anytime, anywhere, and in any position.

Our cat Peep likes to sleep face-down. How she breathes is something of a mystery. I defy any human to duplicate the feat.

Video Treat: Unpredictable Cats

It’s not as easy as you might think, finding just the right cat videos to post here. I don’t like any that have been set up by someone who wants to make a funny cat video: spontaneity’s the key. And I don’t like videos of cats jumping head-on into mirrors. A fella could get hurt doing that!

Anyhow, here are some cats doing some surprising things. That’s one of the things that makes cats so cool: they always surprise you.
