By Request, ‘The Holly and the Ivy’

Phoebe asked for this, one of her favorites: The Holly and the Ivy–one of mine, too. Sung by Mediaeval Baebes.

By Request, ‘The Little Drummer Boy’ (Crosby & Bowie)

Georgia asked for this one: The Little Drummer Boy, by Bing Crosby and David Bowie, from the last TV special Bing ever did.

By Request, ‘Mary, Did You Know’

We know Marcia from her blog, “A Mom Looking Up.” She enters the carol contest with a request for Mary, Did You Know? by Pentatonix.

By Request, ‘Wise Men Follow Him’

Erlene gets the Christmas Carol Contest rolling with this request for Wise Men Follow Him, by Carroll Roberson. Does anybody recognize the movie clips?

‘A Bird with Claws’ (2015)

One of these days I’m gonna have to have Jandra’s pet bird–with teeth, claws, and a somewhat nasty temper–featured on the cover of one of my books. Meanwhile, here’s a bird in our own world that has claws on its wings.

Makes you wonder, doesn’t it?

Our First Christmas Carol Contest

See the source image

Here, lemme have that starter pistol… Blam! I hereby open our first annual Christmas Carol Contest, starting, like, right now and running through December 26.

Unbearable excitement will be generated, I just know it–lots and lots of Christmas fun! Oh–and I’d better tell you how it works.

Readers may request Christmas hymns to be posted here, no limit on how many. At the end of each day, I’ll check the stats and see which hymn got the most views that day, and who requested it. The winner will be whoever requested the hymn that got the most views on any given day during the contest.

F’rinstance, say on Nov. 30 someone asks for “The Sussex Carol” and it gets 14 views that day, and it was the most views any hymn had gotten so far. But then on Dec. 5 someone else requests “I Saw Three Ships” and it gets 15 views that day: it would become the new front-runner in the contest. The leader can change from day to day, which ought to make the contest fun to watch.

At the end of Dec. 26 I’ll check and see who posted the Christmas hymn that got the most views in a day, and that person will be the winner. The prize will be an autographed copy of one of my books. Or treasure.

Anyone is eligible to play, and from time to time I’ll announce which hymn is currently leading the pack. We will not be doing secular Christmas carols. No “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”–we are proclaiming the birth of Jesus Christ, the Word of God made flesh.

Anyway, the contest is now open, and I await your pleasure.

The Biggest Predatory Mammal Ever

I didn’t mean to hit you with a prehistoric critter today, but this video caught my eye and I just can’t help sharing it with you.

Andrewsarchus, from Mongolia, is kind of hard to study because there’s only its yard-long skull that’s been preserved–and only one of those. But if you’ve ever stood in front of that skull, on display at the American Museum of Natural History, as I have, you will stand in awe. I mean, this beast had jaw-muscles as thick as a strong man’s upper arms. It could probably eat your car. In fact, that’s what I think it did eat–cars. With the people still in them.

God’s creative energy–there’s just no reining it in!

‘How Can I Fear with Jesus?’

This beautiful hymn, How Can I Fear with Jesus?, is sung a capella by the Harold Dean Miller Family (and don’t ask me how they do it! Practice, man, practice!). Background sets by God the Father, maker of heaven and earth.

Turkey Turnabout

Nice day, nice suburban neighborhood, man takes his wife for a stroll in her wheelchair–and the wildlife objects! And escorts them out.

I’ve heard Ben Franklin wanted the wild turkey, not the bald eagle, for our national bird, because the turkey is more valiant than the eagle. The wild turkey takes no guff from anyone; and if you’ve never seen one before, and then come upon one suddenly–well, it’s quite startling.

Prayer Request: Erlene

Please, everybody, join in prayer for our friend and sister Erlene’s son, Eric, who has an injured shoulder that doesn’t seem to want to get better. (Been there, done that, know the feeling).

O Father in Heaven, please shed your grace on Erlene’s son, Eric, and heal his injured shoulder: please hear our prayers for him, and be swift to help him. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
