By Request, ‘The Three Drovers’ (Australian Christmas Carol)

Christmas reaches to the ends of the earth. From Australia we have this from my chess buddy, “optimal play”–The Three Drovers: Australian Christmas Carol, sung by the Sydney Motet Choir.

‘On This Day Earth Shall Ring’

I can post a carol, too, I think. And this is the one that entered my mind today–On This Day Earth Shall Ring (Personent Hodie, in Latin. This hymn was included in our seventh-grade Christmas program–and nothing like a cathedral choir to bring it home to us.

Oh, This Day–!

We have to get all this Christmas stuff done, places to go, etc.–and the phone rings and it’s my stepdaughter. They had to euthanize one of their dogs last night. Not nice news. The poor dog was rapidly losing the ability to live with others: every little noise triggered her to attack the other dog. Fighting all the time, and fighting dirty, too. And Georgia had to deal with it all on a broken foot.

Stuff I have to write–but when? And the forecast is that beaucoup horrible weather will descend on us by Thursday. Oh, spiffy. Is our living room ready for a Christmas tree? That’s desperate sardonic laughter in the background.

Well, let’s start by going to the pharmacy to pick up Patty’s medications. And please don’t forget to pray for our friend and brother Mike, who needs to recover from less than perfect surgery. Please, Father–heal him. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

By Request, ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’

I don’t know why it took so long for this old favorite to be nominated, but Phoebe came through for us yesterday–God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, performed by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band.

We still don’t have any carol in the carol contest that got 30 views on the day it was requested–and still plenty of classics that we haven’t heard yet. Let’s get that Christmas spirit rolling!

Prayer Request: Michael

Our friend and brother Michael (“Elder Mike”) needs our prayers. He had surgery not long ago, it wasn’t easy, and now his incision has opened and gotten infected. He was afraid something like this might happen.

Oh Lord our God! In Jesus’ name, and by the power of Jesus’ name, save and heal our brother, your servant Michael: bring him quickly to safety. All healing is from you, Lord: hear us when we cry to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

By Request, ‘Good Christian Men Rejoice’

Somebody else usually requests this hymn, but this year Patty beat him to it. And after all, when your wife requests a hymn, you ought to post it.

Good Christian Men Rejoice, an old-fashioned carol , performed by the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers–and let’s have some carol contest entries, okay?

How Will We Ever Get All This Stuff Done?

Our Trees - Hidden Pond Tree Farm

We have entered Christmas week–that one week of the year that features the most stuff to do and the least amount of time in which to do it.

Spruce up the apartment, wrap presents; buy a tree, trim the tree; buy Christmas dinner; buy the presents you weren’t able to buy earlier; oh–and keep working!

Huge snowstorm rumored to be on its way. That means beaucoup rain. There will be a panic in the Stop & Shop.

We need a highly-skilled cadre of elves.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

A Cradle Held Him but a Tomb Could Not - This weeks church sign Saturday is located in Harrogate, TN to First Baptist Church of Harrogate.

“Courageous Christian Father” posted this picture a sign at the First Baptist Church in Harrogate, Tennessee:

“A Cradle Held Him But A Tomb Could Not”

Let’s keep that in mind, very much in mind, shall we! Not that we mean to ignore the world nooze–but the real news, the Good News, is the birth of Jesus Christ… which we mark as a historical event a week from now.

Up against the evils and stupidities of a fallen world, we plead Jesus Christ the Son of God, who was and is and shall be, Amen.

‘”No Gender December” Looks Innocent, But Isn’t’ (2014)

She wanted to play “Maverick,” so she played “Maverick”–no big deal!

Eight years go by, and we’re still being clouted over the head by “transgender.” Even Christmas isn’t safe anymore.

‘No Gender December’ Looks Innocent, but Isn’t

Why do leftids object so strenuously to the existence of men and women, male and female? Why does that have them chewing the rug?

Had my sister, as a little girl, wanted a toy truck for Christmas, she surely would have been given one. She preferred stuffed animals and cowboy items. No one forced her into any kind of stereotype. And those were the 1950s and the early 60s!

In so very many ways, the times were better.

By Request, ‘Zion’s Daughter’

Requested by Ina: Zion’s Daughter, by Boney M. If the melody seems familiar, well, it should–it’s an adaptation of See the Conquering Hero Comes, by G. F. Handel. It might not be a bad thing to look in on that one, too.
