‘Showers of Blessings’

I don’t know how they got the whole chorus down at the foot of a waterfall, instruments and all, but this is how the kids at Fountainview Academy do hymns–in this case, Showers of Blessings. This hymn goes back to 1883.

‘Shall We Gather at the River?’

A dear old traditional hymn, published in 1864–Shall We Gather at the River?, sung here by Burl Ives. Somehow this hymn brings 19th century Christianity into the 21st.

‘Out of My Bondage’ (Joshua & Jeremy)

A sweet rendition of this hymn, Out of My Bondage, by Joshua and Jeremy.

Out of my bondage, sorrow, and night,/ Jesus, I come! Jesus, I come!

Into thy freedom, gladness and light,/ Jesus, I come to thee!

By Request, ‘Sometimes Alleluia’

Off to a slow and very late start today: last night featured just about the foulest weather I’ve ever seen.

But–here’s a hymn. Requested by Erlene, Chuck Girard sings Sometimes Alleluia.

And the hymn shop is now open. Better late than never.

‘Because He Lives’

Let’s have some old-fashioned congregational singing! Because He Lives, by everybody who can fit into the building at Southwest Baptist Church, Oklahoma City.

The hymn shop is open for requests.

‘In the Sweet By and By’ (with Raft)

Well, they certainly come up with some unusual settings for their hymns! A great big raft out on Seton Lake, for instance. I’m sure I neverd would’ve thought of it.

In the Sweet By and By, performed by the students at Fountainview Academy.

‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus’

A Fanny Crosby hymn this morning, one of eight or nine thousand that she wrote–‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus, sung by the Altar of Praise Men’s Chorale.

By Request, ‘What a Friend’

We have this requested by SlimJim, what a Friend by Matt Maher…

I wonder what people from 200 years ago, would think if they saw thousands of cars whizzing up and down the freeway at speeds that never could have been imagined, back then.

‘Personent Hodie’ (‘On This Day Earth Shall Ring’)

Yes, all right, it’s a Christmas hymn–tell me there’s a bad time for that.

First sung in 1582, Personent Hodie–sung here by the choir and congregation at First Presbyterian Church in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.

Prayer Request: Ina

Please, everybody, join in prayer for our sister, Ina, whose husband has come down with pneumonia.

O Lord our God, merciful and good, have mercy on your servant, Ina, and heal her husband: please, Lord, take away his pneumonia and restore his health: be swift to help him. In Jesus’ name and by the power of Jesus’ name, Amen.
