By Request, ‘Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery’

Requested by Susan: Matt Boswell and the Boyce College Choir perform Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery.

The hymn shop is open!

It’s Not As Much Fun As You Think

CARNIVAL OF SOULS | Horror Amino

Sure you wanna go where this bus is goin’?

School boards acting like German officers occupying France. Critical Race Theory. College. Transgender jihad. Superman’s son is a homosexual. Citizens of the world. And oh, God, transhumanism: leftist bigwigs to live forever.

Believe it or not, it’s not really all that much fun to write about this stuff. Well, I mean, given that these are all symptoms of a culture in the grip of a potentially fatal disease–and only just a few of many symptoms, at that–kind of takes the zest out of the enterprise. Like, how in the world is anybody gonna satirize this schiff?

It can get you down.

“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?” (Psalm 2:1) “Vain” is putting it mildly. And so much of it is nothing more than babble! Pure meaningless drivel. “Our commitment to diversity–” how can you even say that without your tongue going on strike?

(And the useful idiots come swarming out of college like the zombies in Carnival of Souls, brandishing their degrees in Gender Studies, gibbering so mindlessly, they can’t even understand themselves… You really do wonder why Democrats ever have to cheat to win.)

Sun’s out! Back to my book.

‘The Lord Bless You and Keep You’

Bobby Goulder used I don’t know how much technology to transform himself into a nine-man choir and sing The Lord Bless You and Keep You. I think you’ll agree the result glorifies God!

By Request, ‘Spirit Wind’

We have another hymn request this morning, this one from SlimJim–Spirit Wind, by Casting Crowns.

Comparing Ezekiel in the valley of the dry bones to a preacher in a dried-out church today–well, that’s something to think about, isn’t it?

By Request, ‘The Deck of Cards’

I’d never heard of this one, but when my wife saw the hymn request, she exclaimed “Oh, boy, The Deck of Cards! I haven’t heard this in ages!”

Requested by Ina, here’s Tex Ritter with The Deck of Cards.

By Request, ‘The Old Country Church’

Well, I don’t know what my “gender needs” are, but I do know a good old-fashioned hymn when I hear it. I also know my brain needs a rinse after that last post.

So we have a hymn requested by Erlene, The Old Country Church by the Gaither Vocal Group. Actually it contains bits of several classic hymns–just the kind you’d sing in an old country church.

‘Reindeer Don’t Fly’ (Book Review)

See the source image

This is a book by our friend and colleague, Michael Riemer. I review a lot of books, and something about this title, Reindeer Don’t Fly, kept telling me that this was one of them. And lo, there it was on the Chalcedon website.

https://chalcedon.edu/resources/articles/book-review-reindeer-dont-fly

As I was growing up, “evolution” was a thing that went without saying–literally. I was out of college before I heard a single word against it. Heck, everybody “knew” that evolution was true, Darwin got it right–everybody knew that! You either had to be crazy or incredibly ignorant to believe otherwise.

Well, that’s changed.

Michael’s book will give you quite a few reasons to doubt the truth of Darwinism. Once upon a time, no one doubted it (trust me, I was there). Now there’s a great deal of doubt.

Once upon a time progressives, aka twits, who believed in Darwinism got away with passing themselves off as The Smartest People In The World. They still need taking down a peg–several pegs, actually–and Reindeer Don’t Fly certainly does that.

We should all join in.

‘Blessed Be the Name’

I’d never heard this jolly hymn before, but it struck me as a wonderful way to start the day. Performed by Nathan and Lyle, with family and friends–Blessed Be the Name.

The hymn shop is open and we’re taking requests.

Antidote! ‘O Come, All Ye Faithful’

No, it’s not too early for a Christmas hymn! In fact, if you’ve read the previous post and seen that appalling video, there couldn’t be a better time for this–O Come, All Ye Faithful by the Kings College Choir at Cambridge University. And if I were to try to speak out loud just now, I’d burst into tears.

No, the devils haven’t won! Yes, they’re running wild just now, unrestrained in their wickedness, preying on the people they ought to protect: but Jesus Christ has come into the world, and will come again; and He will save us. In fact He’s here already, never farther than a prayer away.

It’s never too early for that.

‘All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name’

There’s a little glitch in this video, but I was lucky to find any performance of this hymn in this melody, the one we sang it to in our church, way back when. One of my favorite hymns–All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name, by Shane & Shane–more modern than I’d choose, but still beautiful.
