How to Ride a Bike with No Hands

The video makes it look pretty easy, doesn’t it? Like, maybe you could do some crocheting while you’re riding you bike.

So don’t take this guy too seriously. I suspect he’s showing off.

Here are a few tips from moi, just to get you started.

First, get a bike. Get used to riding it with both hands on the handlebars.

Next, practice riding with just one hand on the bars, alternating right and left.

Now you are ready to take both hands off the handlebars for just a few seconds, just an inch or two off the bars so you can grab ’em again quickly if you start to wobble. You will wobble till you get the hang of it.

That’s all for now. The next lesson will take you some steps farther. In the meantime, see how you do with your hands just a teensy-weensy bit off the bars for a few seconds.

Important Extra Tip: Wind, rain, and traffic are not helpful.

Can I Get 3,000 Hits This Month?

Here’s Honus Wagner, who got his 3,000 hits the hard way. I wonder what he was thinking, when they snapped this picture.

After two months in a row with 3,000 hits on this blog, it wasn’t looking good for November. Like, where did everybody go? And who’s going to visit here on Thanksgiving?

But thanks to a huge shot in the arm on Friday, I can make it if I can get about 100 views a day for the next eight days. This is coming close enough so that it’ll sting if I miss.

Can I make it? I will try to provide you with interesting reading over those eight days. I’ll even provide advice for riding a bike without using your hands.

Three months in a row with 3,000–hey, that would be really sweet.

There Is No God Like Our God

A lawyer asked Jesus, “What is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus answered, “To love God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. And the second is like the first–to love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:35-39)

Love? Think about that. God is love, wrote St. John. And God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, says the gospel (John 3:16). And the Lord loves you, Moses told the children of Israel (Deuteronomy 23:5).

Over many centuries, mankind has invented many, many gods; who can count them? But no one ever said, “Zeus is love.” Amun-Ra never expressed the slightest desire to be loved by the Egyptians, nor did his priests ever hint to the worshipers that Ra loved them. They would have thought any priest was crazy, if he said a thing like that.

Those things that are said about our God, the God revealed to us in both testaments of the Bible, those things about love–they have never been said of any God but ours. To say them about Marduk or Hercules or Quetzalcoatl would be absurd.

To say them about the State, the secular humanist god, would just be daft.

Our God loves us. The false gods don’t.

But then our God is real, and those others aren’t. Not a single one of them.

Walk in God’s love, and find faith. Walk in faith, and find God’s love.

Hello? Anybody There?

I don’t like to write about politics, although I did write about politics yesterday, and I suspect a lot of you don’t come here to read about politics, either.

Is that why hardly anybody’s coming here today?

Let me quickly throw out my plans for writing about more politics today, and see what else I can come up with, to try and get some readership.

While I’m doing it–hey! Come back, everybody!

My Books Make Swell Christmas Presents

Sorry, but I couldn’t think of any way to write this without it sounding like a commercial. I guess that’s because it is a commercial.

But I’m the only advertising I’ve got, so please bear with me.

Heroic fantasy and adventure, written from a Biblical worldview–that’s what my books are about. Starting with Bell Mountain, then The Cellar Beneath the Cellar, there are now eight books in the series. The newest, The Temple, came out just in time for Christmas.

To see the covers, and read blurbs and sample chapters, just click “Books” at the top of this page. You can order them either through amazon.com or directly from the publisher (shopping cart logo). You might also want to check out the amazon Customer Reviews, most of which have given these books five stars.

All right, commercial’s over. I have fulfilled the original mission of this blog.

Eat Colossal Amounts of Chocolate and Still Lose Weight

How do you lose tremendous amounts of weight? Inquiring minds want to know!

So how do you do that? Beats me.

Meanwhile, where is everybody? Readers, readers, where have you gone? This month is shaping up to be awful for this blog.

But we were talking about how to lose weight while still eating whatever you want, as much of it and as often as you please.

Are you kidding? That’s impossible. There’s a product being advertised on the radio that promises you’ll lose a pound a day if you use it, but that’s impossible, too. Like, what if you use it all year? You’ll lose 365 pounds? What if you only weigh 200?

Amazing what people will believe, isn’t it? “Paying higher taxes to the government will keep the climate from getting bad!” No it won’t. Not even if you really are losing a pound a day by sprinkling Get Lost Elixir on your food.

God is not a man, that He should lie. (Numbers 23:19)

But if you can find a man who tells the truth, stick with him.

3,000–We Did It!

Derek Jeter finished his career last year with more than 3,000 hits–but look how long it took him to get them.

Thanks to everybody who helped me get 3,000 hits this month, my second 3,000-hit month in a row.

This blog has been growing by about 6,000 hits per year.

Now relax and enjoy your Sunday!

Only 51 to Go!

Yes, I need just 51 more hits on this blog to get 3,000 for the month.

I try every day to post things that you’ll want to read. True, I do alert you to a lot of stories that are not exactly edifying. I believe I have a duty to sound the trumpet of alarm. Don’t take my word for it: ask the prophet Ezekiel (Chapter 3, v. 21).

But I hope the menu here is varied enough to persuade you to drop in for a bite of this or that, most days.

So, 51 more–onward!

Help Me Get 3,000 Hits This Month

Stan Musial got 3,000 hits, but even Stan the Man only did it once, and that was only in baseball.

I’m so close–just another 105 will do it.

Tomorrow is Halloween, true, but it’s also the last day of the month, last chance to reach 3,000. It’s also Saturday, not generally a strong day for this blog.

I know, I know–you want to take your kids trick-or-treating, or go yourself, or pluck toilet paper out of your shrubbery, or sneak around the neighborhood peering into windows and scaring people. Whatever. Doesn’t leave much time for reading this stuff.

Tell ya what I’ll do. If it looks like a good start tomorrow morning, I’ll let that college guy come back on here and share some of his words of wisdom. I’ve kept him out all week, so far.

Whaddya say?

Reviewers Wanted

Here’s the first of my series. Note the Global E-book Bronze Medal. This is pretty much a guarantee that the book will not be awful

I’m posting this here because I usually just get lost when I try to use the social media.

I have seven books out there, soon to be eight, and hardly anybody knows they exist. I have had some reviews from my fellow bloggers, but of course I always need more. All seven are available in kindle format from amazon.com. They’re also in paperback, but kindle is cheaper.

To get a feel for what my books are about, just go to the top of the page and click “Books.” You’ll get covers and sample chapters. It’s fantasy/adventure for ages 12 and up–and I think you’ll find that these are, shall we say, unusual.

If there’s anything you need from me, just click “Leave a Reply” down below, and I’ll get back to you.
