By Request,’God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen’ (the Gettys)

Our friend “thewhiterabbit” asked for this one–God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen, sung by Keith and Krysten Getty, backed up by the Irish band, the Star of Munster. Not the usual arrangement!

The leadership in the contest now belongs to O Holy Night by Il Divo, with 25 views on the day it was posted. Can we get more than 25?

By Request, ‘Mary, Did You Know?’ (Mark Lowry)

Joshua has another Christmas hymn for us–Mary, Did You Know?, sung by Mark Lowry with the Gaither Vocal Band. This is the second request for this hymn, but there’s no limit, so let everyone feel free to promote any hymn they wish to hear. It’s all part of the fun of our first annual Christmas Carol Contest!

The winner will be whoever asked for the hymn that had the most views on any single day of the contest. Meanwhile, there’s one prize for everyone–the hymns themselves.

By Request, ‘O Holy Night’ (Il Divo)

Justin’s brother, Jeremy, enters our Christmas Carol Contest with this request: O Holy Night, by Il Divo.

So far, What Child Is This? continues to lead with 22 views on the day it was posted. I don’t know–is that a lot of views? Well, we’ll find out, I guess.

(For Openers) The Sussex Carol

No Christmas hymns submitted for the contest this morning–where did everybody go? So let me see if I can start the ball rolling with this, one of my favorites: The Sussex Carol, performed by Maddy Priot and the Carnival Band, the old-fashioned way. Is that somebody playing a sackbut in the background? Wow!

‘Silent Night’–in Japanese

I asked Joshua if he could find us any Christmas hymns in Japanese, and he came up with this: Silent Night (“Kiyoshi, Kono Yoru”), sung by Ashley Serena. Thanks, brother!

“A house of prayer for all nations…” If wonder if any of the apostles during Pentacost, when they spoke in tongues (Acts 2), spoke in Japanese. Betcha someone did.

A Christmas Prayer

I pray this every Christmas. Please join in!

O Lord Our God–bless this Christmas season of 2018, and give it extraordinary power to turn our hearts to Jesus Christ, our Savior and our rightful, natural Lord. Make it mighty to convert unbelief to faith: turn loose your Holy Spirit to speak directly to the heart and gather souls into The Good Shepherd’s sheepfold. Make this stronger than past Christmases, and Christmases to come, make mightier yet. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

‘Pat-a-Pan’

I don’t think anybody else will ask for this, so I will: Pat-a-Pan, an old Burgundian Christmas carol whose like is rarely met with anymore. This rousing performance is by the Zamar Students’ Choir at Harrisburg Baptist Church, in the Northern Mississippi Christmas Festival.

By Request, ‘The First Noel’

Erlene requested this, wanted to be sure we didn’t leave it out–The First Noel, sung by the Kings College Choir at Cambridge, England. “Born is the King of Israel…” And He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

I couldn’t find video of this, so to hear it, you’ll have to open the link and click the Play button.

Deck the Halls is an old Welsh New Year’s carol, but the version above is called The Lord Has Come and has Christmas lyrics instead. It’s less than two minutes long, but worth it.

If anybody out there knows where to find a video presentation, I’m all ears.

By Request, ‘There’s a New Kid in Town’

This request comes from Susan: There’s a New Kid in Town, by Alan Jackson. Mellow–very mellow.
