You’d think a hippo would be way too fat to generate any speed. Boy, would you be wrong.
The hippo in this video hasn’t yet opened his throttle all the way, but he’s already much faster than you will ever run. Hippos also tend to be irritable if they think you’re encroaching on their territory. Believe it or not, statistically hippos are the most dangerous animals in Africa.
Fortunately for everybody’s peace of mind, Komodo dragons are rare and tend not to live in populated areas. Which is good, because this–the world’s largest living lizard–is one of the few land animals with the inclination and the ability to eat people.
This creature grows up to 10 feet long and 300 pounds. It’s an expert ambush predator. That means you don’t even know it’s there until it takes a bite out of you. And the bite is poisonous.
They’re very easy to avoid, though. Just don’t visit any of the islands where they live.
I happened upon this video the other night, and thought you might be intrigued by it.
What happens when a huge saltwater crocodile, swimming in shallow water, crosses the path of a bull shark? The bull shark, by the way, is responsible for more attacks on humans than any other species of shark–and it’s just as at home in fresh water as it is in salt. Saltwater crocodiles also eat people, when they can get them.
The croc being twice the size of the shark, and armed with horrendously powerful jaws and lots and lots of sharp teeth, the bull shark decides not to bother it.
But the thing that gets me is… does anybody ever go wading, fishing, or clamming in that water?
